Chapter 3 - the cholan investigation

Harold had sent the bodies of the three deceased individuals for forensic examination. During the autopsy, a unique mark was discovered on Hidimba's body near the bullet wound. Cholan began investigating this mark, sensing a significant connection between it and Harold. This suspicion led Cholan to closely observe Harold's actions.

Cholan's doubts about Harold grew stronger when he recalled that, among the tribal group, only Hidimba spoke Tamil. Additionally, when the entire group hesitated to step onto the island, it was Hidimba who confidently stated, "I will take you there." However, Harold had remained silent and had not questioned this decision at all. This made Cholan even more suspicious, prompting him to investigate Harold's background.

Cholan was the first police officer in his family. From a young age, he had been deeply fascinated by solving mysterious and intriguing cases, which is why he voluntarily took charge of this investigation. As part of his inquiry, he searched the department records for Harold's details, but to his surprise, there were no records of Harold in the department's official files. Cholan couldn't comprehend how such an experienced and high-ranking officer could have no official records.

To dig deeper, Cholan questioned David, a long-time employee in the records section who had been working there for decades. When Cholan asked about Harold's records, David hesitated for a moment before retrieving a file updated in 2013. However, the file contained only minimal details about Harold. When Cholan requested records from before 2013, David revealed that most of the earlier records had been destroyed in a fire accident in 1992. The missing details were reconstructed in 2013 based on available information.

Cholan insisted that there should be a digital backup, but David informed him that access to Harold's records required Harold's personal authorization. Realizing he couldn't get the records through official channels, Cholan left immediately.

Determined to uncover the truth, Cholan used a hacker to illegally access Harold's records. What he found shocked him—Harold had been involved in a major case in 1987. Strangely, there were no further details about Harold after that. It was as if his existence had been erased.

Years later, Harold had resurfaced, and now he was entangled in this case again. But what had happened in 1987? Why were there no records of the case he had handled back then? These unanswered questions fueled Cholan's determination to get to the bottom of the mystery.
