Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: It's So Hard for Him

Gu Ningyue propped her hands on the table, turned to look at Shen Hanyin, a smile full of meaning at the corner of her mouth: "See, I told you things would turn around!"

She seemed very pleased, but not because she had won. Rather, she was happy about this so-called 'luck.'

Shen Hanyin was so shocked that she was at a loss for words and didn't know what to say.

"Mr. Long, accept the consequences of losing fairly." Gu Ningyue looked at Mr. Long, a cunning gleam in her eyes: "Bring the money!"

Mr. Long turned his head to glance at the subordinate beside him. The subordinate hesitated for a moment, then quickly went to get it.

Gu Heng suddenly spoke out: "You cheated! How is this possible!"

Five dice, how is it possible for each to show six points?

Gu Ningyue pretended not to hear, and it was only when she received a notification that six million had been credited to her account that she waved to Mr. Long with a smile: "Mr. Long is truly a straightforward person, quite unlike some other people who play tricks behind others' backs! If Mr. Long feels uneasy about the loss, just ask Mr. Gu! I'm off now, thank you for your hospitality!"

What sounded like praise for Mr. Long was actually a subtle critique against playing dirty tricks behind the scenes.

All this stemmed from Gu Heng, so if there's any fixing to be done, it should be directed at Gu Heng.

After leaving Shenghua Club with Shen Hanyin, and all the way into the car, Shen Hanyin still felt as though she had been dreaming: "Ning Yue, how did you do it just now?"

Gu Ningyue smiled and pursed her lips: "I already told you, it was luck! Otherwise, how could I have lost so many times before? I was down on my luck for so long, wasn't it time for some good luck to come my way? Enough, stop thinking about it, I'll take you home!"

There was no way she could tell Shen Hanyin that before being reborn, she accidentally became an apprentice to a gambling god while on a mission.

When it came to dice, she could make it show whatever number she wanted.

The little tricks Mr. Long had were nothing to her.

"Really?" Shen Hanyin murmured, feeling a bit uneasy: "Mr. Long lost so much money, he won't cause trouble for you, will he?"

Gu Ningyue whistled, seemingly in a great mood: "Nope! Don't worry!"

Even if Mr. Long was driven crazy by the six million, as long as Ling Tianyou was around, he would weigh the pros and cons carefully.

After all, risking his life for six million would not be worth it.

When they returned to the villa, as soon as they entered, they saw Ling Tianyou sitting on the sofa.

The atmosphere felt subtly off, as if someone was in a bad mood.

Gu Ningyue greeted him, then casually asked: "Hey, Aunt Zhang said you'd be back tonight. Is everything okay at the company?"

Ling Tianyou turned his head, presenting a flawless face: "What? You're not happy that I came back early?"

His deep eyes seemed to be suppressing something intensely.

"No, no." Gu Ningyue shook her head and quickly handed the bag in her hand to him: "Here, a gift for you."

Ling Tianyou glanced at the logo on the bag, "I don't wear this brand."

Got into trouble, and now trying to please him? Ha!

"Oh!" Gu Ningyue responded, somewhat crestfallen, "Too bad, this color would suit you well."

Somehow, this one action made Ling Tianyou regret the words he had just spoken.

"Where did you go this morning?"

Gu Ningyue hesitated for a moment, "I went to the Shenghua Club."

Ling Tianyou raised his brows, finding her sincerity surprising, "I heard Gu Heng got a tooth knocked out. Was it you? You've become more capable lately, even setting your sights on Long Zhihai's money?"

Long Zhihai is Mr. Long's full name.

He was truly startled when he heard about this incident earlier in the morning.

He originally planned to go to Shenghua Club to rescue her but was informed that Gu Ningyue had already returned home.

When he left the company in haste, everyone thought something major had happened.

Little did they know, it was all for his yet-to-be-wed little wife.

"Your information is quite impressive!" Gu Ningyue was secretly shocked, "I—I just wanted to help Han Yin vent some frustration. Han Yin studied dance since childhood, and yet her leg got messed up by that moron Gu Heng, leaving her with a limp. I didn't expect Mr. Long wouldn't let us leave, so I had no choice but to gamble."

"Really?" Ling Tianyou's fingers tapped slowly on the table with an air akin to a teacher scolding a student: "Your skills are impressive, but those young masters have certainly borne a grudge against you."

He had never heard that Gu Ningyue practiced any martial arts, capable of facing five people alone.

Gu Ningyue felt subdued by his aura, coughed lightly: "With you around, they wouldn't dare do anything to me."

Could it be that Ling Tianyou installed a surveillance system on her? How does he know everything?

Goodness, looks like she'll have to be more cautious in the future.

"Seems I've given you a lot of confidence." Ling Tianyou mused, humor lacing his words, his gaze complex as he looked at her: "How will you thank me?"

Gu Ningyue was taken aback, "Well, you say it! I'll listen to you."

As soon as the words fell, Ling Tianyou suddenly stood up, pulling Gu Ningyue into his embrace.

His arms were like iron bands, and for a moment Gu Ningyue found herself unable to move: "Wha—what are you doing?"

Ling Tianyou was a head taller than her, his pristine face looking down at her, his voice mixed with a bit of anger and teasing, making it hard for her to grasp: "Scared? You were so brave at the Shenghua Club, weren't you? Hm?"

Gu Ningyue struggled a bit, initially wanting to use some techniques, but thinking she'd need Ling Tianyou's support in this world henceforth, she could only put on a servile smile: "Are you mad? Don't be mad, okay? I was wrong."

"You were wrong? What did you do wrong? Tell me." Ling Tianyou lifted his arm, causing Gu Ningyue's lips to nearly touch his.

"Um... well..." Gu Ningyue paused for a moment, hesitantly asking: "I shouldn't have left without telling you?"

Ling Tianyou: "..."

"..." Gu Ningyue hesitated for a while, continuing: "... I shouldn't have gambled?"

Ling Tianyou: "..."

Seeing Ling Tianyou's face full of annoyance, Gu Ningyue was bewildered, "I didn't suffer any losses, really. Please don't be mad, okay?"

Perhaps her tone was too soft, or perhaps she finally touched upon the crux of Ling Tianyou's concerns, as his expression gradually softened: "Next time you want to do something, tell me in advance. I'm your husband; I don't want to hear about your news from other people. Understand?"

Gu Ningyue nodded cautiously, "I won't do it again."

To her surprise, the cold-faced deity she heard about outside turned out to be a doting husband.

Having received her affirmative reply, Ling Tianyou finally released her, "Alright, go and change your clothes, my parents and brother want to see you!"

Gu Ningyue's heart, which had just relaxed, tightened up again, "What? Can't I... not go?"

"What do you think?" Ling Tianyou glanced at her, the threatened undertone in his eyes clear.

Gu Ningyue sighed, accepting her fate.

It's too tough for her, really too tough.
