Chapter 4 - An Unusual Case

After half an hour, Sara returned with two hooded figures. They wore white robes that covered them head to toe. One was male and the other was female.

"Where is the injured?" asked the male. He seemed to be unperturbed by outside influences and only focused on the task at hand.

Meanwhile the female glanced around the room before her eyes landed on the child covered in what she could only assume to be a mixture of ash, mud, and blood. "It would help if you actually bothered to look around Maxwell." she said slightly annoyed at his lack of professionalism.

Looking around for the first time since they entered the manor, Maxwell laid eyes upon the child. He was stunned. It wasn't that he hadn't searched for the individual who needed attention, he just couldn't sense the child with his mana sense. "Aeri, something isn't right. That child has no mana signature." He spoke.

Virgil and Lord Dean heard this and immediately shouted in unison, "Impossible!!!". Lord Dean turned to look at Virgil. At this moment something didn't add up. The child supposedly fell from the sky, as his most trusted aide had informed him, but that was impossible without mana. Not to mention that it was extremely rare for an individual to not have mana at all. Almost every individual on the planet was born with mana, and those who weren't would mostly be taken in as slaves or servants. That is if they lived that long. There was just no possible way the child could've fallen from the sky, as even that would require a grade D Mage.

Aeri noticed the shocked expression on everyone's faces. She thought for a moment before walking up to examine the child.

Upon closer examination, she couldn't see any physical injuries on the child, not even a scratch.

As for mana, she wasn't capable of using Mana Sense. She was a grade D Mage, and only after crossing to grade C could she use mana as another sense.

"Move aside and let me try to cast 'Healing Touch'. Although it's effects are light there should still be a response as long as the target is living." Maxwell said as he approached the side of the Alex.

Whispering a chant, many sigils and runes appeared and condensed into a bright white light before Maxwell touched Alex's forehead.

Upon contact with the child nothing seemed to happen from everyone else's point of view. However from Maxwell's point of view the moment he touched the child his mind entered an alternate world. Inside the new area, Alex was sitting by a pond staring at their reflection. Upon noticing Maxwell, Alex realized they were unconscious. They had been wondering why everything seemed so distant and foggy.

"Who are you and how did you get here?" Alex asked.

Maxwell was stunned and confused. The child in front of him was unusual and had an immeasurable presence that gave off an air of majesty.

He was still under the assumption that this was just a very strange scenario that happened due to his spell.

"I am Maxwell and I was sent here to help you, though I am unaware of where this is. What is your name child, and do you know where we are?" Maxwell asked in a tone that would usually be directed towards a young child.

Alex laughed slightly. "I am Alex. You may know me as Al Zultharex. As to where you currently are..." Alex paused to think about it. "To put it simply you are within my Spiritual World. Think of it as a pocket realm. You do know what a pocket realm is do you not?"

Maxwell started to reply "Yes yes of course I know what a pocket realm is, I'm n- What did you say your name was again?"

Alex barely held back their laughter. "You mortals always react in interesting ways upon finding out my identity." After saying this Alex waved their hand and the scene changed to reveal the situation on the outside.

'So that is what the current situation is like. I see now. Her last ditch attack really did a number on me I must admit. I've temporarily lost a good portion of my power.' Alex thought in surprise. They knew they were injured considering they were currently inside their Spiritual World.

'It shouldn't take more than a month in the mortal realm to recover a bit of my power, but afterwards I'll require a great deal of sacred energy. Then there's "That" which could render me defenseless for a full week before reaching half power... after half power I should be able to handle most beings in this realm assuming the treasures of the celestial realm haven't fallen with me.'

Alex turned towards Maxwell who was now trying to figure out whether what he had heard was what he thought he had heard. One had to know that in the mortal world, Al Zultharex was one of the three main deities. A formless entity of might and power worshipped among the Three continents of the planet. 'If the small child in front of me is actually who they claim to be... but everyone knows of them, and maybe it's just my imagination. I should speak with the local Lord for-' As he was thinking of what to do with this newly obtained information his thoughts were interrupted.

"Forgive me for this but unfortunately I can't have you spreading any rumors amongst your kind... as I'm currently in a weakend state, I must ensure my survival above all else. I'll make sure not to hurt your mind." Alex spoke.

Maxwell was confused, until a beam of energy pierced through the center of his forehead.

"Forget" Alex commanded, in a tone that amplified the sound of their voice, making themself sound hypnotic.

After the beam entered his mind he regained his composure and his mind returned to the real world with no recollection of the events that happened. To him it only felt as if he had lost focus and spaced out briefly before returning to the task of healing the injured boy.
