Jun Mo Xie smacked his lips together, his face the picture of pure bliss. "Could be vinegar. Maybe soy sauce. Who knows? Then again... it could be wine."
The seven Dugu brothers collectively sucked in a breath.
Jun Mo Xie took another sip from the wine cup when he arrived at this point, clicking his tongue twice, then suddenly opened his eyes as if waking up from a dream. "Oh, that's right, what are you all doing here? Hurry up and tell me. If it isn't important, then you may leave whenever you please."
The Dugu brothers' line of sight never left Jun Mo Xie's hands. Every time the latter swirled his cup, their hearts cried out for fear that even more of this priceless wine would spill out.
'This is recklessly wasting a gift from the gods!'
"We received orders to come and grab you..." Dugu Xiong responded without thinking. But before he could finish, Dugu Hao had ferociously stomped down on his foot, causing him to jump up and down from the pain.
BAM!
Dugu Hao stomped on his foot so hard that it might as well have been a death penalty. The poor bastard howled, hopping around on one leg.
"What my idiot brother meant to say," Dugu Hao hurriedly corrected, forcing a wide, greasy smile, "is that our noble and wise grandfather has graciously invited Young Master Jun to the Dugu residence for a delightful and meaningful chat. A chance to deepen our families' bonds, strengthen our alliance—"
He was so busy spewing flowery bullshit that he didn't notice how much spit was flying from his mouth.
Jun Mo Xie did notice, and so did his precious wine cup.
With an expression of pure horror, he swiftly covered the top of his cup with his hand, shielding it from the spittle storm.
Dugu Ying, noticing Jun Mo Xie's disgusted reaction, hurriedly wiped his own mouth. He cleared his throat, forcing out a chuckle that sounded way too fake. "Haha… ha… Yes! What my brother said! We're all practically family! And family shares things! Especially… delicious, mouth-watering, heavenly-smelling wine..."
The seven brothers all nodded in perfect synchronization, grinning like lunatics.
WHOOSH!
Jun Mo Xie sighed, as if the mere idea of sharing was too painful to bear. But before he could say anything. His hand accidentally knocked over the wine cup.
The golden liquid spilled out, glistening as it hit the ground.
The aroma exploded into the air like a damn volcanic eruption.
The seven brothers screamed.
"NOOOOOOOO—!!!"
Jun Mo Xie looked at them with mild surprise. "Hmm~?"
"…Ha… ha… ha…"
The brothers' laughter was hollow, their souls visibly leaving their bodies.
Dugu Ying swallowed hard and took a deep breath before forcing out, "Young Master Jun… given the, uh… profound friendship between our families… we brothers have a very humble request."
He coughed and smiled so wide it hurt. "Could we… just have a tiny taste? Just… a drop? A sniff? Anything?"
Jun Mo Xie sighed dramatically, shaking his head so hard it looked like his neck might snap. "Absolutely not. No way. This is priceless wine! A single drop is worth more than your entire existence! Even I have to savor it drop by drop! And besides…"
His finger suddenly pointed to something. "I only have these few jugs left. Once they're gone… they're gone."
The courtyard was filled with silence.
Seven pairs of eyes snapped toward where he was pointing.
Seven faces froze, and their jaws dropped.
Because right there, lined up neatly, were dozens of large, tightly sealed wine jugs filled to the brim.
Their gazes locked onto the jugs like starving beasts.
This was a critical situation.
No, this was life or death.
All seven brothers silently cursed this shameless bastard. 'Short supply, my ass!'
There were eight gigantic jugs, each filled to the brim! Even with a conservative estimate, each jug had at least fifty jins of wine. That was hundreds of jins in total!
And yet, these pitiful brothers hadn't even tasted a single drop! They could only inhale the divine aroma, their throats burning with envy while this bastard hoarded it all.
'A thousand jins of gold for a single drop? What kind of highway robbery was this?!'
'But... judging from the fragrance alone, it might actually be worth it.'
Jun Mo Xie took a few lazy steps forward before glancing back.
The seven Dugu brothers hadn't moved an inch. Their eyes were glued to the wine jugs like starving wolves staring at a fat, juicy lamb.
Were their feet glued to the floor?!
No, no... it was the unholy power of this godly wine holding them hostage!
Jun Mo Xie blinked and then let out a dramatic sigh. "Ohhh! I see now! My dear brothers, your silent reminder is truly appreciated!"
He swayed as he walked back, raising his voice.
"Attend to me!"
A group of middle-aged servants immediately appeared, their postures straight, their faces serious.
"Young Master, what are your orders?"
Jun Mo Xie nodded sagely, then dramatically slapped his forehead. "How could I be so careless?! How could you all be so thoughtless?! Hurry up and seal these jugs of wine! If it weren't for my dear brothers' reminder, the wine might've turned to vinegar!"
The seven Dugu brothers perked up instantly.
This brat was FINALLY acting sensible!
Clearly, he intended to bring the wine as a gift to their grandfather!
Once it was in the old man's hands, they could drink to their hearts' content... no need to beg like pitiful dogs anymore!
Their eyes shone with unrestrained joy.
But before they could celebrate, Jun Mo Xie casually dropped a bomb.
"After sealing them up... move them to my private warehouse."
"Huh???"
The brothers' smiles froze.
Jun Mo Xie rubbed his chin, looking thoughtful. "Tonight, I'll be holding a family feast with Grandpa and Third Uncle! I suppose I can invite a few guests… but I fear there won't be enough wine to go around."
The seven brothers felt their souls leave their bodies.
This scheming bastard was planning to drink it all TONIGHT?!
"Ah, well, to make up for it, prepare some other wine for our... esteemed guests," Jun Mo Xie added with a careless wave of his hand.
The servants nodded respectfully and approached the jugs, preparing to seal them.
"STOP RIGHT THERE!!!"
A deep, thunderous roar shook the entire courtyard.
Dugu Ying moved like lightning, his massive frame shooting forward at inhuman speed.
With a dramatic sweep of his arms, he spread them out like an eagle blocking the sun, standing protectively in front of the jugs.
His voice was deep and solemn, like an immovable mountain. Anyone unaware of the situation might think they were witnessing a peak-level expert defending his ultimate treasure!
The servants froze, confused.
'Young Master just said to seal the jugs. Now this huge guy was saying... don't touch them.'
What the hell were they supposed to do?!
The other six Dugu brothers snapped out of their shock and immediately rushed forward, forming a human wall around the wine like a bunch of bodyguards protecting their emperor!
They stood shoulder to shoulder, unmoving, unyielding.
Their expressions were grave. Their eyes burned with determination.
Their postures screamed, "Over our dead bodies!"
They didn't give a damn about inconsistencies in Jun Mo Xie's words anymore. Logic had left the chat.
All they knew was if they let this wine slip away now…
Tonight, it would be GONE.
FOREVER.
And that, to them, was a crime against humanity.
Would they let that happen?
HELL FUCKING NO!
