Naruto woke up in the best mood he'd been in since arriving in this strange new world. Yesterday had been incredible. Everything that had happened in Tokyo was still fresh and buzzing in his mind, making it impossible to keep a straight face.

"What are we doing today?" Naruto asked with an eager grin. "Can we go to Akihabara? Or watch some more movies?"

"Sorry, Naruto, but we have to work today," Mimiko said, looking a little defeated.

"What kinda work?" The boy tilted his head, wondering if the twins had to go on missions like Genin. "Oh! Can I come along? I have tons of mission experience, ya know!"

That statement immediately drew everyone's attention around the table.

"Naruto, the twins accumulated a lot of credit card debt yesterday," Suda explained gently.

Naruto blinked, his brow furrowing in deep confusion. Nanako quickly explained what a credit card debt was.

"I thought you said you weren't mad about it, Suda-san."

"I'm not mad," The woman replied with a calm, pleasant smile. "I am simply teaching them the consequences of their actions."

"That's even more reason to let me come with them!" Naruto crossed his arms, puffing out his chest. "I spent just as much yesterday. Dattebayo!"

The twin smiled at the boy.

"You're our guest, Naruto," Geto said, his tone leaving little room for argument. "The credit card had a designated budget for you. The twins exceeded their own budget while also buying things for themselves. The work they are doing today is their responsibility alone."

"But I can't just stay a guest forever," Naruto muttered, looking down before staring resolutely back at Geto. "Let me pull my weight around here. I don't like sitting around doing nothing while my friends work."

The table fell silent as everyone waited for the leader's decision. Geto rested his chin on his hand, observing the blonde ninja with a look of mild amusement.

"How about you fight Toshihisa?"

"So if I beat him, I can go?"

Across the table, Toshihisa Negi scoffed, clearly taking offense at being underestimated by a prepubescent child. "The fight isn't for you to win, brat. It's an evaluation to showcase whether you can handle the curses out there."

The boy slammed one foot right onto the table and pointing dramatically across the room. "You're going down! You're looking at the great Naruto Uzumaki! The man who's gonna become the greatest Hokage Konoha has ever seen!"

"Dude, take your foot off the table," Nanako said disgusted.

"Sorry."

"Great. Looks like I have to fight a four-foot dorito," Negi muttered to himself.

Naruto froze. He had absolutely no idea what a dorito was, but he knew exactly what four-foot meant. "Who are you calling short, scarface?! I'm still growing, ya know! And what the heck is a dorito?!"

"It's a triangular, bright orange chip," Negi said, deadpan, gesturing vaguely at Naruto's new outfit. He wore a casual two-toned black and orange t-shirt with loose-fitting black shorts. "Which describes you perfectly. You look like a walking, loud-mouthed snack food."

"Oh, you're gonna eat those words!" Naruto yelled, shaking his fist. "My clothes are awesome! When I'm done with you, you'll be begging a chip for mercy!"

"A ninja? Right. Real stealthy choice of wardrobe," Negi said knowing his words were getting to the little boy, "And please, you can barely reach the top of the table. Try not to trip over your own red sneakers on the way to the training field."

"That's it! It is on!" Naruto barked, practically vibrating with rage. "Geto-san, let me at him! I'm gonna knock that smug look right off his face!"

Geto chuckled softly into his tea, entirely entertained by the sudden spark in the room. "Well, Toshihisa, it seems you have a match. Finish your breakfast. Let's see what you can do, Naruto."

By ten, the household had migrated to the training area behind the estate. It was a wide-open expanse of flat stone bordered by thick trees, providing a secluded space for combat. Geto and the twins sat upon curses.

Naruto stood in the center, stretching for the fight.

A few paces away, Negi was calmly sorting through some paper talismans. The young man selected one and carefully smoothed it onto the back of his hands and on his chest.

"Are both sides ready?" Suda called out.

In response, Naruto raised his right hand, index and middle fingers held straight up with his thumb tucked in. He held the Seal of Confrontation.

"What's with the handsign?" Negi asked.

"In Konoha, this is a universal handsign used by shinobi to signal the start of a sparring match," Naruto explained. "When you're done, you do the Seal of Reconciliation. It means we're still comrades, no matter what happens in the fight."

Negi stared at the boy for a brief moment, considering the words. He mimicked the gesture, holding up his own fingers in the same seal. Naruto's lips twitched into an appreciative smile at the respect shown by the older man.

"Start!" Suda shouted.

Naruto instantly disappeared from view.

The sorcerer's eyes widened slightly, but he didn't panic. Tracking the boy with raw sight was impossible, so Negi relied entirely on the flow of cursed energy to predict where the strike would land.

From the left a heavy kick was whistling straight toward his midsection.

Negi dropped his lead hand, tucked his elbow tightly against his ribs, and took the impact. The talisman reinforced his forearm with a dense layer of cursed energy.

CRACK.

Negi winced. Despite the reinforcement ofuda, the force behind Naruto's kick rattled his bones. The boy uses his CE reinforcement like a novice. Yet he hits like a truck.

"Look, he's using handsigns again," Nanako muttered, holding up her phone to record the fight. T

"Ninja Art: Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

A thick cloud of white smoke erupted with a pop.

Out of the haze, two more Narutos emerged in mid-motion with matching grins. In quick succession, both clones drove their heels first into Negi's chest. The talisman glowed reinforced the chest against the punishment.

So he has a cloning technique that activates with a handsign, Negi noted, recovering his footing.

Landing from the aerial assault, the clones right hand dropped to their hipa instinctively. His kunai holster—the one he had worn every single day of his life—wasn't there.

That brief moment their brains spent processing the absence of the weapon was all Negi needed.

The sorcerer drove a powerful straight right right through the nearest clone's chest. The clone dissolved into smoke. Without breaking momentum, Negi pivoted, driving a sharp elbow directly into the center mass of the second clone.

They're solid, but much more fragile than I expected, the sorcerer noted, as the real Naruto was already upon him. He closed the distance with a rapid lead jab, using it as a distraction. With an instant follow up of a devastating right that had his entire body weight thrown behind it.

Negi dodged as if he could predict the future.

Naruto chased the dodge, spinning low to deliver a heavy sweep.

The man checking it hard with his own reinforced shin. The collision sounded like two pieces of timber slamming together. Capitalizing on Naruto being extended from the kick, Negi fired a lightning-fast straight right.

It connected.

Naruto's head snapped back violently from the punch.

Negi didn't give him room to breathe, instantly keeping the pressure high. He followed up with a vicious left aimed at Naruto's ribs. Immediately transitioning into a sweeping low kick. Naruto managed to twist his body mid-air, barely avoiding the sweep, but Negi was already waiting for him to land. A palm strike reinforced with a sharp burst of cursed energy slammed directly into Naruto's chest. The young ninja skidded backwards across the flat stone.

Geto hummed softly from the sidelines.

Toshihisa Negi wasn't winning this exchange based on raw strength. He was winning it on pure prediction.

In jujutsu, combat relies on anticipation. A sorcerer reads the "spark" of an opponent's cursed energy. The subtle flare preceding a technique or reinforced blow and reacts before the physical movement begins. But Naruto wasn't hiding his spark or masking his movements. This allowed Negi to read his body mechanics like an open book and counter effectively.

And yet...

Every time Naruto's strikes landed, they carried a violent output that demanded an immediate response. Negi's guard was holding only because his ofuda was protecting him. For how long could that talisman last.

The most baffling part of the fight was that Naruto wasn't reading Negi's spark.

Instead, the boy was reading the physical form of Negi like a traditional martial artist.

Did no one in that ninja village teach him to read energy flow? Geto wondered, touching his chin. Or was he taught something else but for what purpose?

"Not bad," Naruto said, spitting a glob of blood to the side as he licked his inner cheek with his tongue. "Let's see how you like this."

Suddenly, Negi saw a massive surge of raw energy flare out from the boy's body. The sheer pressure of it made the air heavy. What the hell is that output?!

"Multi-Shadow Clone Jutsu!"

With a deafening chorus of POPS, a hundred identical clones materialized, surrounding the sorcerer and shocking everyone watching.

"I knew his reserves were massive, but what the hell is this?" Geto muttered, rubbing his eyes. None of the sorcerers could see even a single drop or flicker in the boy's staggering aura, despite creating an entire army.

Sensing the danger, Negi clicked his heels together.

At the bottom of his boots, two half-talismans slid together to form a single, complete seal. A sudden, violent burst of cursed energy propelled the man high into the air. The clones immediately leapt after him.

"You're not getting away from us!" dozens of clones thundered in unison, genuinely scaring the shit out of the sorcerer.

"Get away from me, you freaks!" Negi yelled. He reached into his sleeves and threw out a fistful of ofuda talismans.

The papers caught the wind, floating in the air around him as they began to glow a deep, volatile yellow.

Negi brought his fingers together in a tight handsign, shouting his incantation: "Spark the ash, ignite the seal; bloom in crimson, burst and kneel!"

Upon his chant the talismans detonated; releasing a massive, explosive output of cursed energy. The fiery blast tore through the airborne clones and instantly turning the sea of boys into a ocean of white smoke.

"Geto-sama!" the twins yelled, jumping to their feet in a panic. Negi had just used a lethal explosive technique in a simple sparring match.

"Don't worry, I will intervene if it goes too far. Besides, that isn't Negi's strongest ofuda," Geto said with a reassuring smile, gesturing for the girls to sit back down.

"Catch this!" a voice shouted from directly behind Negi.

The man spun around mid-air, his eyes widening as the real Naruto bolted out from the thickest part of the smoke cloud. Before Negi could raise a guard, Naruto brought his leg down in a brutal axe kick, sending the sorcerer rocketing back toward the stone ground.

Negi barely had time to regain his senses before he neared the floor.

Two clones suddenly appeares infront of him. The first delivered a rising kick that knocked Negi right back upward.

"NA—"

The third clone hit him in the exact same moment, driving a shoulder hard into his ribs and redirecting his trajectory horizontally. He was completely airborne, helpless before his brain could fully process the transition.

"RU—"

The real Naruto launched himself off a third clone's shoulders, soaring high above the spinning sorcerer.

"TO—"

Naruto's right leg came down like a guillotine.

"U-ZU-MA-KI Barrage!"

The impact echoed across the training ground. Negi crashed hard into the flat stone, bouncing once before lying completely still.

"Oh yeah! That's how it's done!" Naruto grinned, flashing a peace sign to the twins. The girls began to clap excitedly, but their cheers died with faces freezing in a sudden gasp. Unlike a normal sorcerer, Naruto couldn't see the spark of cursed energy. Using that to his advantage, Negi pretended to pass out, waiting for the precise moment the boy let his guard down.

Learn this lesson well, Geto thought, his eyes locked on the young shinobi. Every sorcerer is a con man at heart. When they are losing, they will use anything available to them. Honor is a courtesy that doesn't exist in a real fight.

Instinctively, Naruto channeled chakra around his body to defend himself.

And during the precise moment of contact; within the margin of a single microsecond, Negi's cursed energy snapped. The space around his knuckles distorted. The air compressed and released in a black flare that existed for less than a blink.

Black Flash.

The first in Negi's life.

The force skidded Naruto across the stone.

The residual high of the black flash moved through Negi like an electric current.

As Naruto sat up. A dark bruise stained his cheek, blood seeping from the wound. Yet, despite landing a Black Flash, Negi simply didn't possess the cursed energy reinforcement required to truly break Naruto's monstrous durability.

Negi's heart skipped a beat as the boy's wounds closed and healed right before his eyes.

Geto was already on his feet. "Reverse Cursed Tech—"

This wasn't Reverse Cursed Technique.

The energy signature was similar like how two languages with the same root were similar, but the fundamental nature was entirely different.

Naruto wiped his cheek, looking up at Negi. "You're stronger than I thought, Negi-san."

The man didn't like what the boy's tone implied. He raised his hands in a mock surrender. As Naruto relaxed his stance, Negi instantly leaped backward, pulling a pitch-black talisman out from under his headband.

"Crimson soot. Twin horizons. Nine paths, dissolve... Fireball!"

The cursed technique sealed into the black talisman activated. A massive fireball erupted from the seal, flying straight toward Naruto.

Instantly, a wall of clones threw themselves in front of the fireball to shield the original. But the real counter-attack was already brewing from behind. A deep, sustained hum cut through the noise of the exploding clones.

Air spiraled violently as a Rasengan formed between Naruto and his clone.

Beautiful, was Negi's first thought. He noted a distinct flare from the boy, instinctively predicting where the attack would land. Channeling every single drop of his remaining cursed energy, Negi built a massive wall of reinforcement at the point of impact.

The Rasengan slammed directly into his stomach. The wall of cursed energy reinforcement held for a terrifying few seconds. Then, the dense barrier completely shattered under the grinding, rotational force of the sphere.

Am I going to die? Negi wondered.

Suddenly; a giant, floating virtual hand materialized out of nowhere and gripped the spinning Rasengan. The jutsu detonated violently against the construct, creating a shockwave that sent both Naruto and Negi flying in opposite directions.

Before Negi could hit the stone, he was caught by a large, muscular man with light-colored eyes and mid-length blonde hair held back by a blue headband. The man wore nothing but loose pants, proudly displaying two large hearts painted over his pectoral muscles.

"Larue..."

"Just take a rest, dear," Larue said gently as Negi finally passed out. A large, spiraling bruise marred across his stomach.

Geto helped a confused Naruto back to his feet.

"You brat! What in the absolute world did you just do?!" Larue screamed, his voice booming with dramatic outrage. He cradled like a fragile doll, glaring daggers. "Look at his poor tummy! You completely ruined his beautiful skin, you little monster!"

Naruto flinched, he raised his voice defensively, "Hey! He's the one who hit me with everything he's got! I was just hitting him back! How was I supposed to know he'd break?!"

The twins stood stunned and silent as they watched Suda rush to Negi's side to assist.

"Naruto, how could you take a simple sparring match so far?!" Nanako questioned, her face tight with genuine anger.

"You need to learn to hold back against opponents weaker than you," Mimiko added, her voice sharp with disapproval.

Naruto just looked confused. He stood frozen as everyone took turns yelling at him. His chest tightened. A familiar, heavy weight sinking into his stomach. He had just been fighting, doing exactly what he always did. Why were they all turning on him now? And more importantly... why the heck does that loud giant have hearts over his nipples?!

"I thought he could handle it," Naruto muttered, looking down at his boots as Larue began hoisting Negi up. "He was talking all that trash..."

"Just take a rest, dear," Larue cooed softly to the unconscious young man, completely ignoring Naruto now. "Let's get you fixed up before that nasty spinning bruise ruins your skin."

"Apologize to Negi-san when he wakes up," the twins demanded in unison. They shoot Naruto one last disappointed look before rushing off after Larue and Suda to help carry the injured sorcerer inside.

Naruto was left standing alone with Geto. He bit his lower lip, waiting for the lecture, but the monk simply looked at him with an unreadable expression.

"Do you know anything about reading the spark of cursed energy?" Geto asked calmly.

"No idea what that is. Is it like sensing chakra?"

"Well, I can't blame you for not knowing when to stop when you don't know how to gauge your opponent's limits,"

Naruto felt a wave of relief that someone wasn't treating him like a villain and acting like he should have known better.

Back in Konoha, this kind of brutal sparring was standard. If you got injured, you went to a medical-nin who would patch you up in no time, and you'd be back to eating ramen by dinner. Nobody thought twice about a spar going too far; it was just how shinobi grew stronger. But this wasn't Konoha. And these people weren't shinobi.

A sobering realization washed over the boy. If he wanted to live in this world, he needed to abide by their rules and standards. Otherwise, he might lose the first real friends he had made here over differences he didn't even understand.

"I need to apologize to Negi-san."

"You can when he wakes up," Geto said, matching the boy's stride as they walked back toward the main building. "And don't take their words to heart. They are just anxious. Sparring between us rarely results in anyone visiting a hospital."

That didn't make Naruto feel any better.

"If they continue to have a problem with you, let me know."

"Thank you, Geto-san."

"So, do you still want to do the mission?"

"Hmm." Naruto brought a fist to his chin, thinking it over. "In Konoha, shinobi got paid for their services. Does that work the same way here? Because I need money to buy an apology gift for Negi-san."

"It does."

"Great! So what do I do first?"

The monk stopped walking and just looked down at the boy. Under the intense, calculating gaze, Naruto felt slightly self-conscious and shifted his weight from left to right.

"Naruto. Can I ask you something?"

"Sure."

"Where are you really from?"

Naruto automatically opened his mouth to say Konoha.

"You know what I mean. I've spoken to Mimiko and Nanako. I've gone through everything Suda could find. I even contacted people in circles that have access to information that doesn't reach the surface. There is no record anywhere in this world of a place called Konoha, or a Land of Fire."

He paused.

"If you don't want to answer, I will respect that. But I need to understand who you truly are if I am going to protect my family."

Naruto went quiet. The heavy guilt of keeping secrets from the people who had taken him in settled deep into his chest. He took a breath, deciding to just trust the man.

"I'm from another world."

"Excuse me?"

"You're excused," Naruto blurted out, instantly regretting the timing of the joke. He cleared his throat and began to explain. He walked Geto through the dimension theories his father, had explained to him in the white void of his consciousness.

To Geto, the concept of other dimensions wasn't entirely without precedent. Scientists in this world had theorized about a multiverse for decades. Geto had simply stopped paying attention to what researchers published roughly around the same time he stopped considering non-sorcerers worth his time.

"So the monkeys actually got something right."

"What?"

"Nothing." Geto looked directly into the boy's clear blue eyes. "Thank you for telling me the truth. Can you promise me something in return?"

Naruto nodded instantly.

"But don't tell anyone else."

"Why?"

"Because the moment the wrong people understand what you truly are, they will spend considerable effort trying to use you for their own purposes. You are immensely powerful, and you are entirely new here. Those two things together make you a prime target." Geto held his gaze. "Your naivety will be treated as an advantage by people who possess none."

"Yeah... that makes sense."

"Good. Now," Geto said, his tone lightening up as a faint smile returned to his face. "A great deal of your stranger behavior makes much more sense to me."

"A great deal?!" Naruto echoed, crossing his arms defensively.

"Well, some of it."

"Just some?!"

"Not really. You're just a weird kid," Geto admitted dryly.

Naruto chuckled.

"Geto-san, I want to help with missions," Naruto said. "And for what it's worth, I was actually the team leader back home. So you can trust me with responsibility!"

Geto reached over and ruffled the boy's spiky blonde hair. "Don't lie to me, kid. Nobody in their right mind is making you a leader."

The boy took offense to that even if he was lying.

"However, you have the potential to grow into one."

Naruto's ears went slightly red, and he rubbed his nose with a small, proud grin.

"Now. In Konoha, what kinds of missions did you take?"

"Bodyguard work. Eliminating bandits. Deliveries between villages," Naruto said, counting them off on his fingers. "Reconnaissance. Oh, oh, oh! One time I had to catch a lost cat for a daimyo's wife. I don't want to talk about the cat, though. That thing was a demon."

"In Japan, unexpected deaths and missing persons cases exceed ten thousand annually. The majority trace back to cursed spirits, born from the accumulated negative emotions of non-sorcerers. Our clients come to our religious foundation to have those curses removed. We exorcise them, or I absorb them into my collection, and we are paid a considerable sum for our divine intervention."

Naruto nodded along.

"Curses and sorcerers are both ranked on the same scale. Grade four through Grade one, with Special Grade sitting above that as an entirely separate category. The conventional standard is simple: a Grade two sorcerer is expected to handily defeat a Grade two curse, and can closely contest a Grade one."

"So what's my grade?"

"Based on today, your metrics are all over the place," Geto murmured, studying him. "Your raw physical strength and speed put you as a grade 1. But your lack of basics, your inability to perceive the spark of energy, and your vulnerability to deception make you reckless. I would classify you as a Semi-Grade one. But you possess the latent potential to reach Special Grade if you learn to train properly."

"Hell yeah!" Naruto pumped his fist into the air. "What about everyone else?"

"Negi and Suda are Grade two. Mimiko and Nanako are Semi-Grade two. Larue is Grade 1. And I'm a Special Grade."

"So you're like... the Hokage of this place? Absurdly strong?"

"If I wanted to, I could overthrow the government and take over a country."

"Wow." Naruto clapped twice, genuinely impressed by the sheer, unbothered flex. "Wow, wow, wow. You're like Baa-chan or Ero-Sennin!"

"I don't know who those are, but I will assume it's a compliment." Geto began walking down the stone path, gesturing for Naruto to follow. "We aren't part of the official Jujutsu High authorities, Naruto. They are the established order, tied to conservative families and the government. They enforce curtains, keep secrets, and treat sorcerers like gears in a machine. We operate independently. Our funds come from wealthy non-sorcerers who are desperate enough to pay for curses to be lifted from their businesses, homes, or families."

"Wait, so we're like rogue ninja?" Naruto gasped.

"More like an alternative solution," Geto corrected gently. "We have an incident at a local high school. Several students were killed in a batbroom. It's a Grade Two threat."

Naruto gulped at the thought of curses murdering people.

"You will accompany Suda. I want you to observe how she handles a curse, learn how to spot the signs of negative energy, and under no circumstances are you to destroy the entire building. Do we have an understanding?"

"Dattebayo!"

Author Note: And with that the chapter closes. As I mentioned before, I plan to buff JJK characters throughout this story, and Toshihisa Negi is the first to receive one in a meaningful way.

Canonically Negi is a background figure in Geto's group. His actual abilities as a sorcerer are never shown. We know he served as one of Geto's commanders and was involved in the Night Parade of a Hundred Demons in Kyoto. He was confident enough to face grade one sorcerer Atsuya Kusakabe, though Kusakabe wasn't particularly concerned about the matchup. That's the full extent of what canon gives us.

So I had room to work with.

That pushed me to expand heavily on the talisman system in JJK. Credit where credit is due: I didn't come up with this brilliant system out of thin air. The foundation for this specific expansion was originally created by u/Cuneye669 on Reddit! ( Yes, I have gotten permission from u/Cuneye669 to you their idea in my fanfic )

An Ofuda cursed tool is a slip of paper created by a jujutsu sorcerer. There are several different kinds of Ofuda's depending on the intended usage. Once an ofuda's jujutsu is used, it must be placed in a black box cursed tool created to recharge an Ofuda. Any Ofuda can become any of the types, the difference comes in what is written on the paper. Jujutsu used by an Ofuda takes from ones own cursed energy.

Cursed Ofuda aren't a new technology, rather it was created by sorcerers in the Edo period to combat the periods weakness. It's typically used as a tool for the heavenly restricted and the techniqueless. Sorcerers typically keep them hidden in pockets or with small curtains. Any ofuda with 風 written on the back won't fall when placed in the air.

Technique charge: This type of Ofuda is created with a cursed technique infused into the paper. To charge an Ofuda with a cursed technique, one must write the technique users full name, the technique name and the full incantations used to power the technique. Techniques activated through an ofuda start from the Ofuda rather than the user. The writer can include the term 最大出力 (Maximum output). One technique can have up to three Ofuda's at a time. Only a sorcerer with the technique can enscribe one.

Explosive charge: The Ofuda is overcharged with cursed energy past the point exploding. The cursed energy is sealed within the paper using the Kanji term for explosion (爆) on the paper. The Ofuda can be activated via a phrase written on the paper. Whenever the phrase is uttered, the Ofuda creates an explosion of cursed energy. The explosion is decently powerful, though excels when several explosions are set off at once. These are the easiest to make in terms of cursed energy usage.

Shikigami charged: Enscribed with the name of a shikigami, and the Kanji (式神) meaning shikigami. Shikigami summoned will be approximately as strong as the summoner. Any sorcerer can create an Ofuda of this type, though it uses more cursed energy to create than average.

Simple domain charged: A type of Ofuda created by the new shadow style school. They were given out to those without Simple Domain or those just beginning to learn the technique. These Ofuda's have the Kanji for sword escribed upon the paper. When the Ofuda is used, a 2.2 meter simple domain is created around the user.

Seal charged: A seal ofuda is different from the others in that it doesn't require cursed energy to remain active. The seal charge attacks any type of cursed energy or soul depending on the seal type.

Cursed spirit seals create a small localized barrier that burns cursed spirits when they enter. Other types like incarnation seals will suppress souls and prevent incarnated sorcerers and cursed spirits from taking over a body.
