Chapter 86 - First S-Class Quest

The guild hall was louder than a festival a couple of days after Lucky's S-Class promotion. Tankards clanged, bets were already flying about how long he would stay undefeated, and Lucky's clones were sprawled across half the tables, scribbling odds for anything remotely connected to their boss.

On the main board above the bar, Clone #564 had already written in chalk:

"New S-Class Record Odds: Lucky Finish the S-class mission within a week — 5:1. Lucky Beats Laxus (Again) — 100:1..."

"Oi! Who wrote that last one?!, and this is not even an S calss mision" Laxus snapped, stomping over. Half the clones whistled innocently and vanished in smoke before he could attack.

Through the chaos, Lucky sat in his usual relaxed posture at the corner table. Just arms crossed and eyes that seemed dead. The easy grin he usually wore was absent, replaced by something exhausted and dejected.

Makarov noticed. From his seat at the head of the hall, the master tapped his staff against the wood, and the noise slowly died down. Every gaze turned toward him.

"Silence, brats!" he barked. "Your noise is giving me wrinkles."

"You already have wrinkles," Gray muttered.

BOP! The staff slammed him on the head without Makarov even looking.

When the room finally quieted, the old master's tone shifted, deeper and more serious. "Lucky, as of today, you will carry out your first mission as an official S-Class wizard."

The guild stirred, whispers spreading instantly.

"A quest already?"

"Wonder what it is…?"

Makarov lifted a sealed parchment high. "This is not just any mission. It is an urgent mission that needs to be done quickly." His voice carried through the hall, quelling even the rowdiest mages. "A flock of Wind Wyverns has appeared in the northern mountain passes. They've already destroyed caravans and claimed lives. If left unchecked, they will cut off a lot of trade routes and starve entire towns."

The guild fell into tense silence after all lives were lost. Even Natsu, mid-bite of his fire skewer, paused after all (Wyverns) were part dragon.

Makarov's gaze locked on Lucky. "This is your task. Exterminate the wyverns. Failure is not an option. But most importantly, be safe."

The weight of his words pressed through the guild like a hammer.

Lucky rose from his chair slowly, hands in his pockets, expression calm. "Understood."

A cheer broke out, breaking the tension like glass.

"GO, LUCKY!"

"SHOW THEM WHAT AN S-CLASS OF FAIRY TAIL IS MADE OUT OF!"

Then, predictably, a chair scraped loudly against the floor.

"I'M GOING TOO!"

Natsu stood, fire bursting from his fists. His grin stretched from ear to ear. "I need to ask them if they saw Igneel, and if it's dragon-type enemies, then I'm the perfect choice! I'll burn those wyverns to ashes!"

The guild roared with laughter, some clapping and whistling, while others also felt pity for Natsu.

Makarov, however, didn't share the sentiment.

Without even lifting his head, the old master's staff smacked Natsu directly on the skull with a resounding BOP!

"OWWWW!" Natsu howled, clutching his head. He stumbled in circles, tears forming at the corners of his eyes.

"Hissss!"

Everyone took a sharp breath. Gray fell out of his chair, wheezing. Cana nearly spat her drink across the table. Even Erza's lips twitched dangerously close to a smile.

"Sit down, you motion-sick brat," Makarov scolded. "This is an S-Class quest. You'd be more of a burden than help."

"BURDEN?!" Natsu shouted, his pride instantly wounded. "I will be the strongest in Fairy Tail!"

"Maybe?" Makarov corrected, whacking him again. "But not now."

"GAHHHHHHH!" Natsu flopped onto the floor, twitching dramatically like he'd been slain.

Lucky watched the scene with a faint smirk, shaking his head. "Guess I'm going alone."

"Not alone," Mavis said firmly.

Lucky inclined his head. "Sigh."

Mavis hovered in the air, her white dress glowing faintly in the sunlight streaming through the guild windows. Her green eyes sparkled with curiosity as she studied Lucky closely.

"Well then," she whispered only for him to hear, "let's see what you can do without your little army of clones."

Lucky's smirk widened faintly. After all, Mavis was known as Fairy Tactician, so it wasn't bad to learn a thing or two.

"Guess it's time to go," he murmured, slipping his coat over his shoulders.

—————————————

The wind outside Magnolia was sharp, carrying the chill of the northern ranges long before Lucky and Mavis even reached them. Lucky stood at the crest of a hill, coat flapping against the breeze, eyes narrowed on the distant peaks. The job request had said urgency, and that meant no slow summon rides, no wasted time.

With a flick of his hand, a glowing portal shimmered in the air:

Lucky tried to remember how far the distance was as the portal opened, a swirling oval of light. The mountain range stretched beyond it like a painted canvas come alive, cold winds already seeping through.

Lucky stepped forward without hesitation. Mavis, floating just above the grass, tilted her head, green eyes bright with interest.

"That magic of yours," she said softly, "it's… very good. Your Portal Magic could be used strategically, you know?"

Lucky glanced at her, then through the portal. "Yes, it is very convenient, and it is very useful in fights and transport. But there are limits to it."

"Limits?" Her tone sharpened. "All advanced magic has conditions or side effects, but yours feels..." She twirled midair, dress flaring. Stroking her chin, she said, "... I don't see any of that ."

He smirked faintly. "Yes, there is a limitation to it. For example, Portal Creation requires a couple of things like Energy to cast it, reaction speed, and good memory."

He stepped through the portal, boots crunching against frosted soil on the other side. The air was colder, carrying the faint echo of wyvern cries somewhere far above. Mavis followed, though her form flickered faintly against the stronger ethernano in the mountains.

She hovered beside him, studying him like a scholar with a new puzzle. "But what interests me more is your Variant of Solid Script Magic, which makes me curious how this happened. But how do you make it so quickly? It is similar but different from Jutsu Shiki because it seemed almost an instant type of cast. If you can just write 'No Lightning,' like you did against Laxus, what stops you from writing something outrageous? Like...." Her grin turned sly. "....' All enemies vanish'?"

Lucky lips twitched, but he decided to answer. "It is not possible, like you said. Magic eats mana. Big words, big cost. Too big, and it fails. Words like 'Death', 'Resurrection', etc. can't be cast."

Her body flinched when she heard these two words. "So there is a limit after all."

"Indeed," he said simply.

Mavis twirled again, giggling softly. "That's what makes it interesting."

Lucky side-eyed her. "Interesting? That's your word for it?"

"Of course," she chirped. "Do you think Cana, when she started to use Crush Magic, she complained every time she used it, and it strained her body? No, he smiles because the danger reminds him he's alive. And you…" She floated closer, peering right into his face. "Also, have a limit within your magic."

Lucky would have agreed with her if he were a normal mage because it takes Years to master a certain magic and more if you want to improve it unless you are a genius or the MC. This is a well-known Fact, but looking at the Skill panel, where his magic will soon evolve again, he couldn't help but smile.

The ground beneath them rumbled faintly, a gust of icy wind whipping through the valley. In the distance, black shapes circled in the sky, sleek, winged, fast. Their cries split the air like whips of thunder.

Lucky couldn't help but wonder if he was lucky to be able to find his objective, or Unlucky because he was teleported to the center of them.

Lucky's eyes narrowed. "Wyverns."

Mavis drifted higher for a better view, her form shimmering against the sky. "They seem quite young for wyverns. But there aren't many… but they're fast. And coordinated. You can tell from their formations."

"Pack hunters," Lucky muttered. He cracked his knuckles. "Good. Makes this easier."

Mavis tilted her head. "Easier? You're not using clones this time."

"Exactly." His smirk returned, sharp and confident. "Time to test my recent improvement."

She blinked, curiosity spiking. "Improvement?"

He flexed his fingers, glowing runes forming faintly around his body. "Well, it has been a while since I myself did something; almost everything was left to my clones. I need to stretch a bit."

Mavis gave Lucky a thumbs-up. "Oh, this is going to be fun."

A piercing shriek split the sky. One of the wyverns dove, wings slicing through the clouds as it arrowed toward them. Its scales shimmered like steel, claws gleaming. The others followed, a storm of wings and wind.

Lucky rolled his shoulders, Magic thrumming around him. The scripts burned into existence around him, ready to be unleashed.

Mavis's grin widened, eyes shining with both excitement and mischief. 'Show me, Lucky. Show me what Fairy Tail's newest S-Class can really do.'

The first wyvern screeched, talons flashing as it lunged.

Lucky smirked, whispering under his breath.

"Lucky Hit."

—————————————————————————————

The first wyvern came down like a boulder hurled from the heavens, wings folded tight, claws glinting in the pale light. Its screech tore through the valley, sharp enough to rattle Lucky's hair.

Lucky didn't flinch. With a thought, he decided to use what the clones experimented with a while ago.

[Instant Script: Infuse My Fists with Continuous Random Beneficial Effect ]

His fist glowed, script letters wrapping around his knuckles.

The moment the words flared, his fist felt… different. He couldn't explain it. Sometimes it was heavy, light, like a blade, sometimes with a fire effect. This time, he felt the weight settle in his arm, like a mountain pressing behind his knuckles.

He stepped forward, met the diving wyvern head-on, and swung.

The impact rang out like a thunderclap.

The wyvern shrieked, its entire body jerking midair before it was launched sideways, crashing into the cliffs with bone-cracking force. Dust and debris rained down from the impact.

Truly one hit Combo.

If it wasn't for the effect of Lucky Hit that multiplies the effect by 5 Times, which includes the effect, and because he decided to infuse it with his Fixst, even his fists were so hard that he didn't feel any discomfort slamming the wyvern through the cliff, which was a plus for him.

Mavis's jaw dropped. "That… that wasn't normal. Are you a Dragon Slayer by any chance?!"

Lucky flexed his wrist with a smile. "No. I just infused my spell within my fists."

"Infused?!" she echoed, half exasperated, rolling her eyes. Giving him a suspicious look, "You mean this is all the spell effect?"

He smirked. "Yep."

Above them, the rest of the wyvern pack shrieked in unison. Six in total, their wings cutting through the clouds as they circled, their predatory eyes burning with rage at the fallen comrade.

Mavis floated higher, her expression sharp now. "They're angry. They'll come all at once."

"Good," Lucky muttered. He raised his hand again.

[Portal Creation]

Two portals opened, one above, one below, swirling with blue light. The first wyvern to dive found its path to a glowing portal. It flapped its wing to stop its dive, but it was too late for that, and in an instant, its body entered the lower portal, and half its body came from the one at the top. Whoosh, the Portal slammed shut, and the wyven split in two pieces into the dirt with a bone-jarring thud.

The guild hall back in Magnolia would've been screaming if they'd seen it.

But something else was screaming.

"ROARRR!" The other wyverns were terrified but mostly angry because an ant-like creature attacked them and slayed two

Mavis clapped her hands together, not bothered by the bloody scene. "Oh, that's dirty! Using portals to sever the Wyvern using Space from the closing as a Space Cutting effect? That's cheating!"

Lucky denied her claim. "I call it tactics."

The wyvern saw Lucky distracted and dived at him again, trying to kill him in one shot, snapping its jaws at him.

"Lucky Hit."

X 15

Surprised by the high multiplayer.

As Lucky stepped forward, glowing script wrapped around his leg.

[Instant Script: Infuse My Legs with Continuous Random Beneficial Effect ]

His boot connected with the creature's jaw. The sound was like stone shattering, and the wyvern's head disappeared with blazing flames that seemed to burn even the Ethernano in the Air itself; not even blood could come out from it because of the burns, and it was DEAD.

Two more wyverns swooped from opposite sides. Their wings beat with hurricane force, claws tearing grooves into the earth.

"Behind you!" Mavis shouted, though she knew he'd already sensed them.

Lucky spun, speaking mid-motion.

"Lucky Hit."

[Instant Script: Solid Wall 30% Max power]

A slab of five dense, shimmering script appeared between him and the first wyvern. It slammed headlong into the glowing wall, its body crashing into it like an egg slamming into a rock, crunching with a howl of Agony.

The second came from above. Lucky dropped to one knee and jumped.

His fist connected with its chest as it descended, and this time the power wasn't overwhelming like previous attacks (Lucky Hit not effect), but it was enough. The wyvern was sent tumbling back, gasping as though its breath had been stolen from its lungs.

Mavis's eyes gleamed. "So why is your Attack weaker this time?"

Lucky stood, rolling his shoulder. "I just got a bad random effect, it is a random effect, so I don't know what I'm gonna get."

The wyverns regrouped, circling above, their shrieks echoing off the cliffs. The leader, an adult with scars along its scalls, bellowed, and the others tightened their formation.

"Even if they are Wyverns, they're not mindless, but quite intelligent," Mavis reminded Lucky. Her expression was serious now, after getting attacked by a group, which is not fun. "They're working together. They'll try to pin you down."

Lucky tilted his head, smirking faintly. "Don't worry, I got this."

He spoke quickly, letters blazing brighter than before.

He decided to use logic from previous Worlds.

'It's the wings and the tails you really want. If it can't fly, it can't get away. A *downed* dragon... is a dead dragon.'

[Instant Script: No Air Flow Or Air in Area = 30% Max Mana]

The air seemed to have a pause button, and someone clicked it. A pulse of force started to pull at the wyverns, dragging them downward against GRAVITY. Their wings flapped furiously, screeches rising as they fought the pull, but one by one, they couldn't resist. They were yanked down violently, their wings folding awkwardly as they slammed into the dirt and dazed.

Lucky was there before it could rise.

"Lucky Hit."

X 6

His fists moved in a blur. The first punch cracked its ribs, the second smashed across its snout. The wyvern went limp, groaning weakly.

The leader roared furiously. Trying to use Wind Magic, but nothing, nothing at all.

Mavis floated closer, her expression sharp. 'Lucky's Magic seems to be a bit unreasonable; it seems that if he wants, he can counter any mage with ease.'

Mavis's eyes went wide when realization came to her, 'Doesn't that mean Fairy Tail will have the strongest mage.'

"HEHEHEHE"

Lucky stared at the laughing Mavis but decided to focus on his fight.

The wyvern were in rage. Its claws stretched forward, and using its limbs, it charged as a crazy beast towards Lucky.

Lucky braced, scripts swirling around his fist once more.

"Lucky Hit."

X 16

The letters flared golden, brighter than ever before. When his fist connected, it was like an explosion.

The wyvern's upper body caved in, then, as if it were a can under a hydraulic press, it started to fold under the sheer power, its body thrown back. It slid helplessly through the Ground, crashing into the mountainside that shook the valley.

Silence followed, broken only by the distant echoes of retreating Wyverns. The surviving wyverns shrieked once more, then scattered, trying to fly, but it didn't work. Then they started to run, abandoning their fallen leader.

Lucky lowered his fist slowly, exhaling through his nose. The glow of the scripts faded.

Mavis floated beside him, eyes wide, her smile growing with every second. "That… that was incredible."

Lucky smirked faintly, shaking his wrist. "And here I thought you were going to lecture me for not summoning the Clones like you wanted."

"Oh, I will," she said cheerfully, flipping upside down midair. "Later. After I finish seeing the fight."

Lucky rolled his eyes. "You're enjoying this too much."

"Of course I am," she shot back.

He chuckled under his breath, glancing at the downed wyvern leader that lay there on the dirt.

—————————————

The valley lay quiet at last. The carcasses of wyverns sprawled across the ground, their massive wings torn and broken, while the rest of the pack had been taken care of.

Lucky rolled his shoulders and stepped forward. His InstantScript marks faded from his skin, dispersing into sparks of golden light.

Mavis floated in front of him, still glowing faintly with excitement. "That. Was. AMAZING!" she shouted, flipping upside down midair before spinning back upright. "I mean, you redirected them with portals, sealed their element, and you punched one so hard it looked like a shooting star! Do you know how long it's been since I got to watch a battle like that?"

Lucky smirked faintly. "Too long, huh?."

"Decades!" she chirped. Then her tone shifted, sharp and curious. "But your magic. I need to know. What is that exactly? Script magic that works instantly? That doesn't make sense. Even a solid script needs prep. Yours just happens!"

Lucky crouched beside the fallen wyvern leader, checking its body. Dead. Good extermination jobs didn't always mean slaughter. Sometimes it meant removing the threat, but because a lot of people died, he decided not to show mercy to it.

Picking up the Cards that only he can see, deciding to use them later

Only then did he glance up at Mavis. "InstantScript. Think of it as word magic but stripped of the fluff. No writing. No delay. Just a thought, and it's there."

Mavis's eyes widened. "That shouldn't even be possible! Magic formulas take time because the ethernano needs to stabilize. If you skip that step, it should blow up in your face."

Lucky smirked. "That is why I speak it out."

Her jaw dropped. "So have you ever caused it to explode?!"

"Once or twice," he admitted. "The clones hated it more than me. Speaking it out will make it more accurate, for example, if I wanted to cast [Exploding Self Tracking Enemy], if I had other thoughts, it could become [Exploding Self Tracking Allies]."

Mavis covered her mouth, half-horror, half laughing. "That's awful! …But also kind of hilarious."

"Depends on which side you're on." Lucky dusted his hands off, standing again. "The point is, it is easier to speak it out than think; also, intent has to be put behind the words ."

Mavis's emerald eyes glimmered with interest. "Intent… You mean your intent is enough to overwrite the instability?"

"No, it makes the effect more accurate."

"Fascinating," she muttered, though her grin betrayed admiration. "You're not even playing fair at this point."

Lucky shrugged. "¯\_(ツ)_/¯"

Mavis burst into joy. "Oh, you really do fit Fairy Tail."

Lucky decided to clean the scene and started to summon Clones.

"Guys, you know what to do."

'( ̄^ ̄ )ゞ'

'( ̄^ ̄ )ゞ'

'( ̄^ ̄ )ゞ'

"One it"

They spent the next half hour dragging wyvern corpses into a pile for the local villagers to confirm. Lucky is now planning to distribute them to the villagers after all. Lucky is not low on money, and the recent losses were a lot.

But Mavis never stopped asking questions.

"How many scripts can you cast at once?"

"A lot."

"Do your clones inherit the ability?"

"Yes. But they waste it on nonsense."

"What happens if a script doesn't work?"

"I lose a lot of Magic."

She winced, then tilted her head thoughtfully. "And yet you keep using it."

Lucky smirked. "after a lot of tries, I know what to use and what not to use."

Mavis shook her head, with a thought. "This poor Clones."

Lcky's brow twitched, but he decided to ignore her

By the time Lucky finished distributing, the sun had dipped lower, casting long shadows across the valley. He opened another portal, shimmering, revealing Magnolia's distant skyline.

"Mission complete," he said simply, stepping through.

Mavis floated after him, humming happily. "I can't wait to see everyone's faces when they find out you cleared an S-Class quest in one day."

Back in Magnolia, chaos erupted the second Lucky stepped through the guild's doors.

"LUCKY'S BACK!" shouted one of the younger members.

The entire hall turned, jaws dropping when they saw him emerge from the portal, dragging the only one he wanted to keep the bound wyvern leader behind him. Its massive form crashed against the floor, chains glowing faintly.

Every mug of ale in the guild hall froze halfway to lips.

Then the noise exploded.

"HE DID IT IN LESS THAN A DAY?!"

Lucky raised a brow. "Souvenir for my first quest."

Natsu shot to his feet, eyes blazing. "You didn't even let me come! Master, c'mon, I could've..."

Makarov, sitting cross-legged on the bar counter, thwacked him on the head with his staff. "QUIET!"

Natsu yelped, clutching his skull.

Lucky smirked faintly, raising one hand. "Quest complete."

Makarov's eyes softened as he studied him, then the wyvern, then back to Lucky. "Aye. Proof enough. Well done."

The guild erupted again, this time in cheers. Tankards slammed together, echoing across the hall.

Mavis hovered above the crowd, watching the celebration with a bright smile. For the first time in a while, she felt like she was truly proud of being the guild she had built.

She glanced at Lucky, who stood calm amid the chaos, letting the guild roar around him.

"Hmmm," she whispered to herself. "He will make a fine President candidate."

The moment she said this, Lucky felt shivers down his spine.

——————————————————

The celebration lasted deep into the night. Ale spilled, songs rose, and bets exchanged hands until even the rowdiest guildmates slumped over their tables.

Lucky sat in the corner, arms crossed, listening to the noise with half a smile. His clones had joined in the chaos despite his orders not to. One ran a drinking contest, another played dice with Macao, and a third was lecturing Gray about the "proper way" to fold laundry.

But through it all, he could feel her eyes on him.

"Enjoying yourself?" Mavis's voice chimed in his ear, softer than the clamor around them.

Lucky didn't look her way. "I thought you liked noise."

"I do," she admitted, floating above the crowd, unseen by everyone else. Hands on her waist, face up with a proud expression, "After all, this is my guild."
