Meanwhile, back in her room, Semaya had been trying to lull little Ryder to sleep again after he suddenly woke up crying, but nothing seemed to work.
No matter how gently she rocked him or how softly she whispered, the baby only cried harder, his tiny face flushed as if refusing every comfort she offered.
At last, she gave up and carried him out, patting his back lightly. "Did you miss your madre already? Alright, alright… let's go see him."
Her eyes flicked briefly to her watch. It had been nearly half an hour since she had taken Ryder from Ryley. By now, the blond should have finished soaking in his warm bath.
But when she reached the front of the master bedroom, one of the nearby guards immediately stepped forward and stopped her.
"Sorry, Miss. No one is allowed to enter without permission while the room is vacant."
Semaya frowned at once. "Vacant? Isn't Mr. Ryley inside?"
The guard shook his head. "No, he went out earlier."
