"I'll call you back."
Ning ended the call and immediately turned into a bat, flying through the sky as he went about finding the red car again. It took him a while before he found it in front of a red light, waiting.
Ning landed on a building nearby, his ear focusing on the voice within the car. He could barely isolate the voice there and hear what they were saying.
"You have to help me," the voice said. "He came for me. Why didn't you say he would?"
Ning's eyes widened. "That sly bastard. He nearly had me fooled."
"No, I didn't. Yes. I told him I was paid. 12 thousand, as you said. Yes, that would be helpful. Thank you."
Ning couldn't hear what was being said on the other side, but what he heard was more than enough to know that he had been properly played by the gnome. That damn man hadn't been bought off at all. He was simply acting the part.
He also seemed to have a direct communication to the other person, which Ning had been looking for all this time.
