Ning took a moment to take it all in. The Gallows had been so big that even decades after their disappearance, their names still hung on the mouth of every person living in the shadow of the city.
Every police officer, every detective, every petty criminal knew of their name. So, if a man associated not only with the Gallows but also the main reason for their downfall had just been attacked, it was easy to assume that had been the reason why.
"Who would know the ghoul was alive?" Ning asked. "And why would they wait 20 years to kill him?"
"How could we know?" Larissa said. "Mira, continue checking through the report. Surely we'll find some information about him. See if you can also check who else had these records accessed in the past."
Mira got to work, leaving Ning with nothing else to do. He went to the break room, where he lounged around on the couch, watching the morning workings of the stations.
