​The constant hum of the commercial airliner engines that would carry them to Ottawa blended with the steady murmur of the airport's VIP terminal. Seated in one of the dark leather armchairs within the wing reserved for high-performance athletes, Bek kept his gaze fixed on the large window overlooking the runways. The morning sun was beginning to break through the mist, tinting the asphalt with a pale golden hue that inevitably reminded him of the light filtering through the glass of that cafeteria at the end of last season.
