Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: Self-Help

"Call the people in the infirmary and ask them to come as soon as possible! Hurry!" Guo Rongrong, who was five months pregnant, said with a tired face.

She had chosen to stay in the school dormitory because of her pregnancy. Unexpected incidents like an earthquake could occur, but fortunately, with everyone's help, she managed to escape.

Gradually, everyone realized that the emergency and helpline numbers were busy. Their university town was already remote, and they had to rely on themselves.

"I feel a bit dizzy," Fu Ying said suddenly, unsure if it was due to the aftershocks of the earthquake.

"You have a fever." Li Yanqian confirmed after reaching out to touch Fu Ying's forehead. In the darkness, it was difficult to see her expression clearly. Soon, Fu Ying couldn't even stand steadily.

"Dizzy? There are too many people here. Let me find some water for you." Gu Yao was about to run outside.

"Gu Yao, come and help here." Li Yanqian gestured for Gu Yao to assist on the other side.

"Where are you going?" Ren Yulan asked as all three of her roommates headed towards the exit.

"We're going back to the dormitory." Li Yanqian replied.

"What? Are you crazy? We finally managed to run out. Why would we go back?" Ren Yulan exclaimed, thinking Li Yanqian must be out of her mind. Even Gu Yao hesitated.

"Let's find a place with fewer people to help Fu Ying." Gu Yao suggested.

"We're going back to the dormitory. Are you coming with us?" Li Yanqian asked Ren Yulan.

"I'm not going back. Please go on your own." Ren Yulan refused. She could see that Fu Ying had passed out at this point, and she couldn't fathom dragging two injured girls back to the crumbling building.

Li Yanqian nodded and didn't say anything, but she instinctively held Fu Ying and headed towards the dormitory.

"Yanqian, the situation in the dormitory is really bad," Gu Yao tried to dissuade them.

"I know, but Fu Ying needs rest, and there is plenty of water and food. It's impossible for the hospital to take care of a patient with a fever right now."

Li Yanqian tried to convince Gu Yao, also hoping to convince herself.

The playground would soon become more crowded as people started falling sick one after another, experiencing fever and fainting. Li Yanqian had already noticed a few people sitting on the ground, unwell, but she wasn't going to follow their lead. She didn't pay attention to what Gu Yao had said.

Supporting the increasingly feverish Fu Ying, Gu Yao realized that there was a city in her hometown where children had high fevers and became mentally impaired. With that in mind, she stopped saying anything further. Fu Ying's body temperature was at least 40 degrees Celsius at that moment.

"Classmates, why are you going back inside when you're already out of the playground?!" A tall boy wearing a student union armband shouted as he ran ahead. But upon seeing the three of them, he turned back and asked, "My friend has a high fever, and we want to take her back to rest," Li Yanqian explained.

"You're being reckless! We're still rescuing people inside, and you want to go back?" The boy thought the three of them were being unreasonable, adding to the chaos when others were already busy.

Li Yanqian understood that the boy had good intentions, but there was no use explaining further. They continued walking with Gu Yao supporting Fu Ying.

"Hey! You guys..." the boy wanted to stop them, but his companions' calls reached him from the nearby teaching building, so he had to let the three of them go.

The situation in the dormitory building was not ideal, but Li Yanqian had a reason for coming back. She remembered that in her previous life, dormitory buildings No. 3 and No. 4 had never collapsed from start to finish.

As long as the building didn't collapse, they would be safer inside.

Fu Ying had completely lost consciousness. Li Yanqian, who was shorter than Fu Ying, carried her on her back, while Gu Yao provided support.

Witnessing Li Yanqian's unsteady steps and the sweat on her forehead, not to mention Gu Yao beside her, even the onlookers were moved.

"She is a loyal person," Fu Tingyu pursed his thin lips as he watched Li Yanqian carrying Fu Ying on her back. He had to admit that the scene was incredibly touching. The determination in the black-haired girl's eyes was something he had never seen before...

"It's good that Miss Fu has found good friends in there." Secretary Lin Xingyi commented, relieved that Mr. Fu hadn't pressured Fuying to hurry up or something similar today.

"She's dying anyway." Fu Tingyu added finally.

"...," Lin Xingyi looked at Fu Tingyu's back with a complicated expression and felt a little sympathy for Fu Ying's character in the play.

...

Finally, the three of them reached the stairs on the fifth floor, but Gu Yao noticed that the stairs were split in the middle.

"The gap in the middle is too wide. We can't climb up while dragging Fu Ying." Gu Yao realized.

"Let's take the elevator." Li Yanqian said calmly.

"Yes, we should find a dormitory on the fifth floor and rest for now. Our dormitory will be in the same condition anyway." Gu Yao considered it too dangerous to use the elevator at this time. Even if they borrowed someone else's dormitory temporarily, it would be understandable since they only wanted Fu Ying to have proper rest.

"That's too inconvenient. Let's go." Li Yanqian replied as she pressed the elevator button. The elevator doors opened, and Gu Yao reluctantly entered.

"Fu Ying installed a military-grade elevator. Don't worry." Li Yanqian reassured Gu Yao, realizing she had forgotten about the elevator earlier. She had gone through so much effort to climb to the fifth floor.

Fortunately, Fu Ying's special elevator was still functioning normally, but Gu Yao's legs were still trembling when they reached their destination.

Dormitory 719 was in disarray. Li Yanqian laid the unconscious Fu Ying on her bed. In the dim light, Fu Ying's face had turned pale.

"Let her cool down. We need to cool her down quickly," Li Yanqian murmured to herself as she entered the bathroom. Gu Yao frantically searched for Fu Ying's cup.

The enclosed restroom provided a momentary relief for Li Yanqian's anxious nerves. Thinking that communication was still working, she picked up the phone and sent a text message to Lao Zhou, which would delete itself after being read.

Zhou Feng was in an open area surrounded by many neighbors. He had just rescued a few elderly people and children. Now that the earthquake had subsided, he was feeling somewhat lost. What were they supposed to do now? Wait for rescue?

His phone vibrated in his pocket, and he took it out to read the text message from Li Yanqian.

[Go to the main warehouse and wait for me. Don't come out unless I arrive.] The message read. He was a little confused and wanted to reread the message, but it had already been deleted.

That's right, it was sent by Miss Li.

"Auntie Zhang, you all rest here. I'm going out for a while." Zhou Feng told Aunt Zhang.

"Why are you going out now? Stay here and wait for someone to come." Aunt Zhang advised. She was concerned about the possibility of another earthquake. It was too dangerous to go out at the moment.

"It's fine. I can't just sit here doing nothing. Everyone will come out eventually," Zhou Feng said as he walked toward his motorcycle.

Seeing Zhou Feng put on his helmet and start the motorcycle, Aunt Zhang had no choice but to give up.
