Chapter 7 - Chapter 7: The Power of Air

At the end of the day, Matt went on to practice both Earth and Fire magic before eventually going to bed. The next day, He went back to working with the blacksmith brothers, where he would take time to practice fire magic with Luke when he wasn't running around. Matt continued this routine for the next few days. After a while, he had finally reached Lv. 5 in basic earth control and completed his first quest. Once the skill reached Lv. 5, it evolved into a new skill.

| Intermediate Earth Control Lv. 1 |

Matt's level had also increased to 4 while training his earth and fire magic, giving him 2 more stat points. He placed the free stat point he received as a quest reward into Charisma in order to even out his stats and then added the other two to intelligence, as Emma had said that it was the most important stat for a mage because it increased both his MP and his ability to learn magic. With this, his Bio now looked as follows.

As soon as Matt finished allocating his stat points, He received a new notification.

| New quest: Train 5 different elements to level 5. (1/5) |

Thankfully, his Fire magic was not too far behind, currently standing at Lv. 4, but he would still need to get air magic from John and find someone he could get water magic from. And so, the next day at work when John wasn't too busy Matt went up and started talking to him. "Hey John, I had a question I wanted to ask you. Can you hit me with some of your air magic?" Matt asked John with a smile on his face.

"Now why would you want me to do that? I like you, Matt, I don't want to hurt you, especially not with my magic." John responded, a worried look on his face.

Matt chuckled, "I don't want you to throw me through a wall with it, I was talking to one of my friends about what the strongest element was, I originally said it had to be either air or lightning, but my friend laughed and said that air magic was the weakest of them all, so I wanted you to hit me with some of your magic so I could see just how strong it is." Matt lied as naturally as he breathed. "I've seen Luke's magic and I'm sure yours is just as good if not better, so I don't want you to hit me with your full strength, I'm not trying to die here, I just wanted to see how strong air magic really is." Matt knew exactly what he was doing, John was very proud of his magic, so if Matt said that someone had insulted air magic, he'd be more likely to show him what he could do.

'This is a dangerous game you're playing, you've seen how strong Luke is. Chances are, that John is just as strong, if he hits you with all his strength, there's a high chance you'll be seriously injured. So try not to rile him up too much,' Emma warned him, but it was too late, Matt had already changed his stance, ready to throw out an attack.

"Alright, if you put it like that, I guess I have no choice, brace yourself, Matt." John said, and a second later, a gust of wind hit matt so hard he was pushed into the wall a few feet behind him. Thankfully John had taken the time to warn him. Matt had not only put up his guard but also absorbed some of the magic. It wasn't enough to stop the blow, however, as Matt's arms were still covered in cuts.

"Oh shit! I guess that was a bit too much, let me get you some bandages to wrap up your arm!" John said before running to the storage room.

"What's with all the rucku- WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED HERE!?" Luke yelled when he saw Matt leaning against a wall with his arms all bloody.

"I told John to hit me with his air magic," Matt said calmly.

"Why would you go and do that, you know air magic has one of the strongest offenses right?!" Luke asked, a mixture of confusion and worry painted his face.

"I got in an argument with my friend after he said air was the weakest element," Matt responded.

"So because your friend is an idiot, you decided it would be a good idea to get hit by magic?" Luke said while rubbing the bridge of his nose with his fingers, clearly annoyed.

"Yeah, I guess that was pretty stupid, I probably should have asked him to hit a target or something." Matt said, realizing how dumb his story actually sounded.

At that moment John came back, a couple of rolls of bandages in his arms.  "This should help for now, oh, hi Luke." John said as he walked into the room.

"Don't 'Hi Luke' me, why the hell did you hit him with magic?" Luke said, madder that his brother would actually Matt, even if he did ask.

"Well, he told me too, and his friend said air magic was the weakest. Look, we'll talk about this later, for now, we should get him cleaned up and bandage up his arm." John responded, trying to calm his brother down.

After Matt was bandaged up, they told him to go home and to take the day off tomorrow so he could rest and recover. He told them that one of his friends knew healing magic and that it wasn't that big a deal, but they insisted. So that's what he did. He headed home to the farm. By the time he got there, his arms had already healed, when he took the bandages off, he saw that there weren't any scars either. This was good, he wouldn't have to explain anything to his parents this way.

He took this extra time he was given to practice air magic. After starting to practice, Matt quickly realized why air magic was considered one of, if not the strongest element. It made the story he told John and Luke sound even dumber now he had witnessed the power of air magic first hand. Not only were the attacks strong but it was also a very versatile element. Even at the basic level, he was able to leave cuts on the trees with blades of wind. Emma also told him that at higher levels he could learn to read changes in the air around him, basically allowing him to sense everything that was happening in his surroundings. There was also the possibility of moving things with air as well as flying, but all of these were very difficult skills to master, especially flying. Supposedly, it was something only true masters of air magic could achieve flight.

Learning all of this information motivated Matt even further. He could not only use air magic but three other elements, and there was the possibility of learning even more in the future. Soon enough he would be able to take quests at the tavern and earn some real money. Maybe in the future, he could even learn how to use multiple elements at once and combine them to create even better forms of magic. The possibilities were endless, but for now, he had to focus on learning the basics of the magic elements he currently had.
