Chapter 13 - CHAPTER 13:

I remained seated in my bed with the bucket in front of me; it was jam-packed with my vomit. I took the bucket out into the dumping area and sent it all away before putting the bucket in its place.

As I was about to drift to sleep, I heard my brother enter the room. "Why, here is the MVP of the battle!! So how are you?? I heard that you were tired. Is everything okay??" I clenched my hand. "I don't know. I feel like I am lost."

Brother Cedric looked at me sympathetically as he sat on the bed next to me. "I know how that feels. My first kill was something I would never forget; the face of the man I killed haunted me in my dreams for a long time.

I could never forget how I killed him. It was on a bandit camp raid. He was down on his knees at first begging for my mercy, but as soon as I turned around, he tried to stab me in the back. I... after killing him, I felt like I would never experience happiness ever again.

Father, Mother and Rhea tried everything to cheer me up, but nothing worked. I knew that it was a kill-or-be-killed situation, but I still felt that I could have done things differently.

2 months later, Mother was in a room alongside Lady Demetric; Mother was giving birth to a baby, a new life. Father, Rhea and I were waiting outside with Mother's screams echoing throughout the house.

And after a long time there was silence; Father was pale, and Rhea was expecting the worst, and when Lady D came out with a baby boy in her hand.

She told us that Mother was tired, so she fell asleep, and at that, we all relaxed and shared a moment of silence. She then gave the baby to Father, who took him in his hand for a few seconds before calling me and Rhea to tell us to take a look at him.

Then Father looked at each of us in the eyes and asked us what the most meaningful thing was that we did. When he saw that neither of us knew the answer, he said, Helping this family in any way possible, either by killing or by giving birth. Look at this baby; he is our future and a very weak being who constantly needs us to survive.

As Father was saying that, the baby smiled and let out a laugh or fart; I still haven't figured it out, but at that moment I understood that no matter what I go through, all the suffering and pain pales in comparison to the happiness I felt that exact moment," my brother said while he squeezed my shoulder. The edges of my eyes started to water a little bit, and a lump was forming in my throat.

"It was you, Jade; you made me want to live, to pull through anything, because after a long painful day there is a hope for a moment of happiness. Don't ever forget that we are always here for you and that we form each other's happiness." I hugged my brother as hard as I could muster, while bawling my eyes out, while my brother reciprocated with a hug of his own, rubbing my back.

We remained like that for a good while until I let out a yawn. "Come on, let's get some sleep," my brother said as we separated. "Yeah, Yawn, I am pretty tired." I had puffy red eyes when I went to sleep that night, but I was feeling much better.

"The next day we should reach Tyrosh." I heard the captain tell Zorroquol, "Good, we're right on schedule." as I was spying on the captain and Zorroquol from the deck, as they were in the captain's cabin.

Brother then approached and said, "So yesterday, we received more than half of the pirate's treasures. Want to see what we got?"

I scanned to see if there was anyone who could eavesdrop on us before saying, "They apparently have a schedule. I can't hear all that they are saying, but I think they will pick something from Tyrosh."

"Or drop something off. We took from the pirates all their food, so there's no need to make this pit stop anymore; we will continue as planned the other day. Now, you want to see what we got?" Brother Cedric offered.

"Aren't you intrigued by this whole thing?" I asked my brother's nonchalance about this: "I am, but fussing all over it will just make us seem suspicious. You should look when no one is looking; otherwise you will be caught."

Once we reached our room, my brother used a soundless spell. "Just in case," my brother responded to my questioning look. "Once I defeated the pirates, I directly went to the captain's cabin and took all the papers he had,/while burning the cabin to make it seem as though the captain.

However, I didn't have time to read, so we will split the task; you take half and I will take the other, agreed??" "Yeah, sure. But why did you go to the captain's cabin??" I enquired. "Didn't you find the attack suspicious?? Not only did the pirates know where we were, but no one rang the alarm. It seems to me as though it's an inside job; someone killed the lookout and then allowed the pirates to get near. Whoever it is, they did a good job.

But they didn't expect us to be strong; most likely thanks to the spark spell you used, they must have thought all our spells were useless." Brother Cedric reasoned.

I slowly realized just how big this whole scheme actually was. 'What are they trafficking for such an elaborate plan and large-scale battle to take place??' I thought as my brother and I started reading through the pirate letters.

I never expected myself to say this, but pirates letters are boring. From the papers, I had, there was a single treasure map; most of the maps were of the sea currents and the normal stuff. It's true that these maps are worth a lot, but they are useless to us since we don't own a boat to use this map.

"Hmmm, maybe we should make a boat." I said, looking at my brother, "Why would we need a boat?" He asked with a raised eyebrow, "Well, we could provide this service to the sealord and his friends, making a big beautiful boat that's only for small voyages only!!" I suggested it to my brother.

"You started thinking like merchants!! What will I tell Mom?? "I am dead!!" he said, feigning an anxious face. "Oh, come on!! It's a good plan!! We will make easy money!!" I respond while rubbing my fingers, "If you say so, mister merchant!!" my brother says with a slight bow. "Sometimes you are insufferable." I respond with a dead look on my face, "I hear that a lot." My brother says with a smirk on his face; exasperated, I try to change the subject. "Anyway!! Let's get back to searching!!".

We kept on searching for a full hour, but we found nothing. "That's weird? How come we can't find the letters?" I ask, tired, "They must have had some other way to communicate!" my brother says with a realisation dawning in his eyes.

"Well!! That was a waste of time!" I nearly shout, 'this whole thing made me tired, and I stayed wayyy past my sleep time.' I whine to myself, 'Not entirely!!' my brother said, handing me 2 maps. "Treasure maps!!! Finally I can see not one but two at the same time with my own eyes!!" I say with a dreamy face.

"You can take one," said my brother when he saw my face. "Thanks!!" I stared at both maps, seeing if I would get any kind of gut feeling about it, but nothing, so I chose one at random and handed the other.

"Let's go through the plan one last time," my brother said, which made me exasperated. "Tomorrow you will follow Zorroquol and see what he does, while I will try to see what they are smuggling and try not to get caught." I know the plan; it's not that difficult to remember anyway." I say.

"Okay, okay, just be careful not to get caught. Here you go," the brother said after collecting all the maps in a sack and handing it to me. "I can keep them??" I asked, "Yeah, for your ship plan." He responded with a smile, "Thanks, brother; I love you," I said, hugging him.

"I know. We will go through the rest of the treasure some other time, as we need to sleep, as tomorrow will be a festive day," Brother said as I separated from the hug. "You don't have to tell me twice." I said as I jumped on my bed and slept like a rock.

Quickly morning rose, and Tyrosh could be seen, "Ready the ropes!! "Close the front!" the captain shouted as our speed decreased. We were about to land in the port. "Tie the ropes!!" and the ship came to stand still in the dock.
