To the trillions of sentient beings inhabiting in the planet, Aethelgard is not just a plant. It is the considered soul of Valerius and origin of life here.
The Zeniork

The Zeniork are godlike beings of supreme intelligence. They possess no permanent physical form, appearing to the sentient races as, transparent clouds shaped giants. They communicate through telepathy mostly. Weakest of them can look over thousands of years into the future.
The Zeniork are immortal, but their existence is a cycle of continuous evolution. It takes a minimum of 100,000 years for a Zeniork to complete their evolutionary cycle. When they do, they ascend to Godhood. Upon reaching this state, a Zeniork becomes so overwhelmingly powerful that a single errant thought could accidentally obliterate an entire galaxy.
Knowing this dangerous truth, the ascended Gods must abandon Torol and leave this reality entirely, migrating to superior universe built by their ancestors.
Before a Zeniork start evolution, they pass through various trials.
They have to start their life in Valerius, simply as an egg.
For 1,000 years, the egg incubates, absorbing the planet's ambient energies until it hatches into a self-aware Zeniork child, born with the inherited memories and knowledge of its ancestors.
After hatching from egg the child must live as a mortal as one of the species in Valerius.
This is the only vulnerable state for Zeniork.

The Nedomas

The Nedomas are the largest physical entities inhabiting the planet. They are plant-animal hybrid, sentient race with a type-II civilization.
They are bipedal, but entirely non-humanoid. They possess head and mouth but no eyes or other organs. However they can still see and hear through the flow of wind and vibration.
Their massive bodies are a seamless fusion of organic plant matter and animals. Their long limbs resemble sprawling tree branches.
Despite their terrifying appearance and their capability to grow up to a crude 150 meters in height, the Nedomas are deeply peaceful and wise beings. They live for thousands of years, surviving for a singular, sacred purpose: the protection of the World tree. They are the absolute Guardians of Valerius. Possessing near-invincible durability and heavy, instantaneous regenerative capabilities, they have already fought and repelled countless alien incursions over the millions of years together with other sentient allies.

The Enigmas

Standing at an average height of three meters, the Enigmas are humanoids who can breathe seamlessly on both land and underwater. They
possess super-intelligence and a life of thousand years.
For millions of years, they were ranked among the top five most technologically.
In fact, the Enigmas were the first to invent dimensional portals, unlocking instantaneous fast travel across the vast expanses of the universe.
In the ancient past, the Enigmas fought shoulder-to-shoulder with the Nedoms to protect Valerius. But over time, their intelligence made them twisted narcissists.
They no longer wanted to be equals, they wanted to sit at the apex of creation.
In the past they were experimenting a virus in some hostile planet. It mutated in to a different micro organism entirely.
Driven by curiosity, the Enigmas subjected that mutated organism into Gaia tree itself to see it's effect.
Tree itself seems to be immune to this virus.
However the virus become hostile to whoever harms the tree. Like a symbiote it made the world tree it's host.
This was a failure experiment for Enigmas. Although, this increased hostility of Nedomas with Enigmas.
Enigmas were banned on Oros, the continent of world tree for eternity and their status fell to bottom.
Now, only revenge remains in Enigma.
