Yes I should definitely move away. These shining orbs visible from the surface of a lake rumored to be haunted are very suspicious.
As soon as I stepped out, a tentacle shot out of the surface aiming for my head. It missed me by a hair's breadth. The hairpin on my head came off from the sudden jerking.
A black shadow rose up from the lake. The dim moonlight allowed me to see the outline of it. A body similar to yuuji but also different.
It irked me to acknowledge that yuuji falls under the same category as these rabid abominations...
"Hahahaha MARECHI, I need more marechi! Just a bit more and I'll be able to defeat that arrogant punk from the corps. So don't run away and let me devour you miss.
Is he talking to me? Why though? Does he want to see me scared or something? What a creep!

....Did I say it out loud? It's still a few hours till dawn, I'll have to hold him off until some demon slayer comes here.

Saying so, he thrust a dozen more tentacles at me. Strong enough to kill a normal human with just a graze.

He couldn't finish his sentence as the thrown rock punctured his throat. I'm may be stronger than the average person but I can still get hurt. Giving him a chance to fight while levelheaded would be disadvantageous to me.
As soon as his throat healed much to my surprise, he was about to lash out at me verbally instead of attacking me. What a dull demon.
Dodging another set of tentacles, I picked up the hairpin from the ground and ran towards the forest.
As expected, he followed me without much thought while still attacking repetitively in the same monotonous fashion.
I was beginning to feel the familiar sense of lethargy slowly consuming me. But I had confidence in my physique. Taking a deep breath, I jumped branch to branch entangling the tentacles while also throwing the pepper balls at his face.
I would've made it of not for one of my sandals wearing out causing me to trip from the last branch.
The demon didn't let go of that opening as he entangled me.
"I'll make sure to teach you where you belong you bitch.."
He growled while saying that out but became a bit confused not seeing a reaction.
I guess it's expected. After all, anyone else in my shoes would've been frightened beyond measure. But I wasn't alone. While I do not like talking help from others, yuuji is still my husband even though he's possessed. It's fine if he helps me out.
I wonder how long it's been since I became aware of his presence..

A high pitched noise rang out and silence ensued as I carried by the waist. Yuuji's face was laced with a bit of anger sadness and worry.
"Don't push yourself too much please. You're the only family I have."
"Un"
That was the only response I could give him. Neither a 'yes' nor a 'no'. Staying with him for so many days helped me realize that he'll forget about whatever he was talking about if I acted cute enough.
The demon plastered to the tree couldn't yell out at the strange situation between a demon and human as his face was grabbed by yuuji and his entire body was broken and knotted to the tree branch.
It was a bit gruesome but still manageable. I guess someone else touching me really sets him in a bad mood.
"Those demon slayers this pervert was talking about is close so I'll go now"
Before I could say anything he vanished.
Is he embarrassed by his outburst earlier. I definitely didn't hear anything with the line "don't touch my wife" when he was tying up the demon.
My train of thought was broken as a man with a sword came out and looked at the scene.

why is she so strong?
a marechi is a human with unique blood. so unique that it's worth is equal to 50 or more normal human blood for demons. since the demon slayer world heavily relies on breathing techsniques which boost the Oxygen amount transported via blood. I figured unique blood will allow a human to transport the amount of oxygen a normal human would transport when using breathing techniques. Ofc that would be too op so i set it to a run down version of passive breathing technique efficiency.
