Chapter 23 - Chap 23: Now in FGO

Since studying again is boring, so I sleep through the whole lesson. Still, I'm a bit surprised as I have a dream. This never happens to me for ages. It's about me feeling bored with this slice-of-life lifestyle and ending the whole reality leaving only me behind.

I then create the whole reality where I'm the protagonist of FGO, with no extra powers or cheats for an authentic experience. I'm immersed in it for a while will I hear Yukino's voice waking me up.

"Rito! Wake up! It's lunchtime already."

"Hm? Okay, okay, let's go eat someplace then."

"What did you dream about, Rito? You have a smile on your face the whole time."

"Really?"

I then place my finger on my lips. Indeed, I'm smiling right now. As expected, it seems like I hit my limit of enduring the boredom of this world. That dream must be a vision of what I unconsciously feel inside.

'Or maybe I planned to do it but suddenly have another idea.'

And what I have guessed must be true. Since I still have the settings I made in that dream, I can implement them whenever I want. Still, I didn't do it because I forgot I could world travel and add additional settings if I like.

So, the plan is to wait about a month to go to the FGO's world and become the protagonist. And to have an authentic experience, I won't carry over any Servants, cheats, or other things. After all, being a regular human and fixing the Singularities is the crux of the story.

'Now, I can't wait for that day to come.'

While daydreaming about going through that journey, my arm is being pinched. Turning my head to look at Yukino, and she seems annoyed.

"What?"

"Hah. Did you daydream again?"

"Maybe?"

Yukino then massages her forehead and sighs. She then looks straight at my face.

"What should I do with you? Do I always need to stay by your side to ensure you won't get into an accident? You daydream a lot of times."

"Hey! I'm not a child. My instinct will activate and save me from accidents, so don't worry about me."

"Hah. That ability of yours kinda makes me jealous."

"Sure, moving on, is the lunch delicious?"

"Delicious like usual. I worry I might not escape your clutch since you held my stomach hostage."

I shrug my shoulders at her response.

"It's indeed my plan."

"Wow. What a genius plan."

"Are you being sarcastic?"

"Who knows?"

We then have some small talks with each other before class starts again. After school, I escort Yukino back to her apartment and go home.

"I'm home."

"Kyuu!"

"Welcome back, Rito and Yae, too."

Yae then jumps down from my head and runs somewhere. I then return to my room and get some casual clothes to bathe. In the changing room and getting undressed, I already see Yae already preparing to take a bath. I then smile and pick her up.

I then shower myself first before washing Yae. I wonder when she will evolve into humanoid form.

'I guess I need to force her to eat some Spirit pills and experiment on her.'

Yae then bites my finger. I look at her with a questioning look, but she stares back with puppy eyes. I can only sigh and pat her head to ensure I won't experiment on her. Still, she has quite a grab on some of my habits.

After the shower, I pick Yae up and take a bath together. She's paddling in the bathtub, and I relax like usual. While I'm relaxing, something strange is happening. I notice it immediately, grab Yae, and quickly get out of the tub.

After a white flash, a naked girl with pink hair appears in the middle of the tub. I then rub my eyes to see if I see things wrong. I open my eyes again only to see the girl is not there anymore.

'The f*ck? Did I do something to push forward the event? And why teleport that quickly?'

"Kyu?"

".. Let's finish our bath first, shall we."

After finishing my bath, I plan to go back to my room. Then everything surrounding me starts to deteriorate into dust, leaving me alone in a white void. I watch the process with a bitter taste. I know why this happens.

Since I started to feel bored with this slice-of-life lifestyle, I subconsciously reset this reality. I smile bitterly.

'I guess I'll play in the FGO reality for a while.'

I then copy the settings I thought of in my dream over here.

The leveling will work by infusing the experience cards onto the Servants. And you get them by defeating the enemies. The ascension system works like the game, imbuing the loot dropped by the enemies. Miniature statues are things you have to carve or loot from somewhere else.

The skills enhance system work is thrown away. I let the Servants have the skills at max level. You only need to ascend to unlock more skills.

The gacha system is tricky. There are a few ways to summon them. One is you need to register their Spirit Origin and then call them. You can also sacrifice the Holy Grail to summon 7 Servants. Or summon like usual in the anime. I leave it open for convenience.

I then add a few settings. After checking again to see if I miss anything, I start the new reality. I'm not Fujimaru Ritsuka, so I wonder how long I can endure. I also go by Yuuki Rito since I'm used to it. With my consciousness fading, I hope this time it'll be meaningful.

---------------

"Fou? Kyuu... Kyuu? Fou! Fou... Fou!"

Feeling something licking my cheek, I open my eyes and see a fluffy white creature. I slowly massage my forehead. New memories are running through my head, and I have finished the simulation battle when you first start the game.

'Look like I'll be on my own now.'

"... Uhm. Since it's neither morning nor night, please wake up, Senpai."

Looking at the familiar girl, I jump a bit. I need to get used to her look. Still, why does she have a design similar to the h*ntai protagonist? One of her eyes is covered by her hair, and it makes me feel worried.

"Uhm. Who are you?"

"That's a tough question to answer suddenly. Maybe I'm not important enough for you to know my name?"

I then tilt my head.

'Is this how she used to be? I only start paying attention to the story from the third or fourth singularity.'

Seeing me tilting my head, she gets flustered.

"No, I do have a name. I have a proper name. But I never have the chance to use it because I'm afraid I'll leave a bad impression."

Seeing I'm feeling confused, she then changes the subject.

"Ahem. Anyway, can I ask you a question, Senpai? You were asleep, but I don't see why you'd sleep in the hall. Can you not sleep unless you're on a hard bed?"

I don't think she will believe in me being from another world. So, I'll go with the original flow.

"... Eh? Was I sleeping here?"

"Yes, like a log. It was such deep sleep, and it was almost textbook."

"Well, I like sleeping. Like a lot."

"Fou! Kyuu! Kyao!"

Then Fou jumps onto my lap and sits on them. It indeed looks cute seeing it in person.

"I completely forgot. I still haven't introduced you yet, have I, Fou? This squire-like creature is Fou. He's a Privileged Life-Form allowed to wander freely around Chaldea."

"Fou. Mmkyu, Fou!"

Fou then jumps down from my lap and runs somewhere.

"Fou led me here, and that's how I ran into you, Senpai. And he sometimes does that, wandering around Chaldea."

"I've never seen an animal like Fou before."

"Yes, he generally doesn't go near anyone except me, but Fou seems to like you, Senpai."

Then it means my body is a typical human, and my true thought is completely hidden from a Beast.

"Ah, there you are, Mash. That won't do, you know, wandering around without permission..."

The man in a green suit then pauses and looks at me. I also look back at him and wonder how can everyone in Chaldea not have any suspicion about him. I mean his outfit and his face screaming he's a villain. Still, I keep my usual expression while looking at him.

"Oh, someone's already with you? You're... I see... The rookie who just got assigned here."

He then offers a handshake with me.

"I'm Lev Lainur, one of the technicians employed here. And you're name is?"

I then take his handshake.

"I'm Yuuki Rito. And Mash, nice to meet you, too."

"Eh? Ah, this, I'm Mash Kyrielight."

When I offer my handshake to Mash, she avoids it with a bewildered face.

'Eh? Is she this shy in the early part?'

"You're already this friendly to each other, hm? So, you're the last of the 48 candidates. Welcome to Chaldea. I'm glad you're here."

Lev then asks me.

" I heard you were selected from many public applicants, so how long was your training? A year? Or 6 months? Or 3 months?"

"Nope, I didn't receive any training."

"Oh? So you're a complete amateur? Right... We did call for applicants to fill in the numbers. Do forgive me, as I was inconsiderate. Don't be discouraged."

"It's okay. I only tried my luck since this job has a high salary."

"Is that so? 38 elite mages, plus 10 talented public applicants... Somehow, we were able to gather all possible candidates."

Lev then opens his arms wide to make a dramatic introduction.

"This year, 2017, all possible candidates capable of Spiritron Dives were brought to Chaldea. That's something to rejoice over."

After the introduction, Lev puts his arms behind his back.

"If you have any questions, you can ask Mash or me anytime. Hmm?"

Lev then turns to look at Mas and asks her.

"Come to think of it, what were you chatting with him, Mash? That's not like you. Did you know each other before?"

"No, I had never met Senpai before. Senpai was sleeping here, so I just..." (Mash)

"Sleeping? Ahh, you went through the simulation. Spiritron Dives get to you if you're not used to them. I think you should go to the infirmary, but Director's orientation is about to start. Sorry, hang in there a little longer. You should hurry over."

"Eh? Orientation?"

"There's an orientation by the Director at the Central Command Room in 5 minutes. She's putting on a presentation for the newbies."

"Uhm. So, where is it?"

I then ask Lev for directions. Although I might get lost in the process, I can use this as an explanation to avoid the explosion. When I wait for his answer, Mash then asks him.

"Dr. Lev, do you think I'll be allowed to sit in on the presentation, too?"

"Hmm? If you stand way back in a corner, I think she'll look the other way... But why?"

"I just thought I should take Senpai to the Command Room. Senpai may fall asleep on the way again."

"Thanks, Mash."

"Ah... No. I just thought I should help Senpai in some way."

"I think we should hurry to the orientation. You don't want to get on the Director's wrong side."

"Okay."

I then nod at Lev and walk together to the Central Command Room. The flow of events is the same in the game. I slept through the whole presentation and got kicked out of the orientation. Well, I also need to adjust to this body.

This body is a typical human's body without any fancy features.

'Still, that slap is hard, and the general Mystic Code is taken away.'

"Are you alright, Senpai?"

"... Did I daydream again?"

I didn't notice that I was already walking alongside Mash.

"Yes. It seemed like you were in REM sleep... Anyway, the Director's slap seemed to wake you up completely. Thank goodness."

"Yeah. It still stings when I focus on it."

"Is the slap that hard? still, you've been left out of the first mission, Senpai."

"Yikes. I suppose I might get fired on the first day."

"-Oh!"

"Fou!"

Fou then jumps and attacks Mash's face, slides around her back, and settles on her shoulder.

"Wow. What's a smooth attack? Did you get used to that, Mash?"

"Yes. It's been a year since Fou came to live here."

"Kuuu, Fou! Fou!"

"Hmm, hmm. Apparently, Fou's embraced you as one of his own, Senpai. But can Fou see humans as rivals exist in this world?"

"I have no idea. Still, why does Fou see me as a rival?"

I look at Fou with questioning eyes.

"Well, knowing Fou as I do, I'm sure he'll forget it by tomorrow. And we've reached our destination. This is your room, Senpai."

"Thanks for coming all this way, Mash."

"It's fine. If Senpai asks me, I wouldn't mind treating you to lunch."

"Kyu... Kyu!"

"Fou says he'll look after you, Senpai. That sets my mind at ease."

Fou then jumps from Mash's shoulder to mine.

"Now, then, I'm off. If we're lucky, I think we'll meet again."

"Yes, let's meet again."

After saying goodbye, I then enter my room. What I see is Roman sitting on the bed and eating snacks. When I come in, he's surprised and points at me.

"Whaaaat? Who are you? This is an empty room! It's where I slack off! Who permitted you to come in?"

"But Mash told me this was my room."

"Your room? This place? Oh..."

Seeming to realize something, he scratches his head.

"Nice to meet you, Yuuki. Let me introduce myself. I'm Romani Archaman, but you can call me DR. Roman."

"Nice to meet you too, Dr. Roman."

I look at him and feel amazed by his choice in the Final Singularity. I played FGO when Lostbelts was the new story. So, the events having Mash as your guide is suspicious to me. And I guess that Roman must have died somehow.

'Still, who can believe Roman is a critical character? His interactions aren't usually serious.'

I then smile and hope I'll have some excitement in this world before traveling back to the slice-of-life world.
