The room remained completely silent.
Neither Feroz nor Suleiman moved.
The mirror stood between them.
Its surface looked perfectly still.
Like calm water.
Yet somehow...
it felt alive.
Feroz could not explain why.
He had faced monsters.
He had stood beneath the Tree.
He had crossed the Learning Path.
Yet this mirror unsettled him more than any of them.
It felt as though it had already begun watching him.
Suleiman quietly looked at him.
"You can still turn back."
Feroz frowned.
"I thought every lesson had to be completed."
Suleiman smiled.
"No."
"Every lesson..."
"...must be chosen."
Feroz looked back at the mirror.
For a long moment...
he simply stood there.
His father's memory.
The shadow in the rain.
The missing words.
Everything still echoed inside him.
Part of him wanted to leave.
Another part wanted answers.
Finally...
he took one slow step forward.
The mirror remained perfectly still.
Then another.
Nothing changed.
He stopped only an arm's length away.
Its surface reflected nothing.
Not him.
Not Suleiman.
Only endless darkness.
Feroz looked at Suleiman.
"It isn't showing anything."
"It will."
"When?"
"When it finishes looking at you."
Those words made Feroz uncomfortable.
"It looks at people?"
Suleiman nodded.
"The mirror does not begin with your reflection."
"It begins with your heart."
Silence returned.
Several seconds passed.
Nothing happened.
Then...
small ripples slowly spread across the surface.
The darkness trembled.
Like still water disturbed by a falling drop.
A faint golden light appeared beneath the surface.
It grew brighter.
Slowly...
an image began to form.
Suleiman quietly stepped back.
"This..."
he said softly,
"...is your next lesson."
Feroz did not answer.
He could no longer look away.
The image became clearer.
And for the first time...
the mirror showed him someone.
It was him.
But younger.
Much younger.
The little boy from the orphanage.
The same worn clothes.
The same frightened eyes.
The same lonely expression.
Feroz froze.
He had not seen that version of himself in years.
The child looked around nervously.
He seemed completely unaware that someone was watching him.
Feroz whispered,
"Is this a memory?"
Suleiman answered,
"No."
"It is how you remember yourself."
Feroz looked confused.
"There is a difference."
---
The little boy sat alone outside the orphanage.
Other children were playing nearby.
Nobody invited him.
Nobody even looked toward him.
The young Feroz quietly watched them.
He looked like he wanted to join.
But he never moved.
Feroz felt something painful inside his chest.
He remembered that day.
He remembered deciding not to ask.
It was easier to stay alone than hear someone say no.
The mirror suddenly changed.
Now another memory appeared.
Mrs. Aliya.
She smiled as she handed him food.
Young Feroz smiled back.
For only a second.
Then the smile disappeared.
The child immediately looked away.
Almost like he believed happiness would not last.
Feroz slowly lowered his head.
He had forgotten that.
Suleiman spoke softly.
"You learned very early..."
"...not to expect good things."
---
The mirror changed again.
Haroon appeared.
The day they first met.
Haroon laughed loudly.
He treated Feroz like family almost immediately.
Young Feroz looked surprised.
Almost suspicious.
He did not know how to react.
Suleiman asked,
"What do you see?"
Feroz answered,
"I see Haroon."
Suleiman shook his head.
"No."
"You see trust."
Feroz looked again.
This time he noticed something he had missed.
Haroon smiled freely.
Feroz did not.
Even while laughing...
he always looked ready to lose everything.
---
The mirror became still once more.
Then another image appeared.
Vaheen.
Standing silently behind him.
Exactly like before.
Feroz immediately stepped back.
His breathing became heavier.
The mirror rippled again.
But something changed.
Vaheen was not moving toward Feroz.
Feroz...
was slowly walking toward Vaheen.
His eyes widened.
"No..."
"That's wrong."
"I never walked toward him."
Suleiman remained calm.
"Watch carefully."
The image continued.
Vaheen stayed perfectly still.
Feroz kept taking slow steps forward.
Not because someone forced him.
Because he wanted answers.
Because he wanted the Noise to stop.
Because he wanted the pain to end.
Finally...
the image stopped.
Feroz stared at it.
"I..."
"I wasn't trying to join him."
Suleiman nodded.
"I know."
"You were trying to escape your fear."
---
Silence filled the room.
Feroz slowly understood.
The Threshold had never used only power.
It had used exhaustion.
Pain.
Loneliness.
Questions.
Every step toward Vaheen had started with one simple wish.
"I just want this to stop."
Suleiman looked at him.
"Most people do not choose darkness."
"They simply become too tired to keep walking."
Those words stayed inside Feroz.
He thought about Haya's brother.
Sameer's father.
Rahim.
Even Qadir.
How many of them had simply become...
too tired?
---
The mirror changed one final time.
This image shocked Feroz more than all the others.
He saw Qadir.
His father.
Standing inside the Hall archives.
Exactly as the old man had described.
Books surrounded him.
Ancient scrolls covered the tables.
Qadir looked exhausted.
His beard was longer.
His clothes were dusty.
He had clearly been searching for days.
He suddenly stopped reading.
Slowly...
he looked directly toward the mirror.
Toward Feroz.
For one impossible moment...
their eyes met.
Feroz's heart nearly stopped.
"Father..."
Qadir smiled.
A sad smile.
Then he quietly said,
"If you are seeing this..."
"...you came farther than I hoped."
The image disappeared.
The mirror became silent again.
Feroz stared at the empty surface.
His hands were shaking.
He looked at Suleiman.
"Was that..."
"My father?"
Suleiman answered honestly.
"I do not know."
Feroz frowned.
"You don't know?"
"It could be a memory."
"It could be an echo."
"It could be something left behind."
"The Learning Path never lies."
"But it does not always explain."
Feroz slowly took a deep breath.
The words echoed inside his mind.
"You came farther than I hoped."
Not expected.
Hoped.
Why?
Why had Qadir hoped Feroz would never reach this place?
What had he discovered?
---
Suleiman rested one hand upon the white stone frame.
"The mirror has finished."
"It showed you something important."
Feroz looked at the silent surface.
"What?"
Suleiman answered quietly,
"You have spent your whole life asking..."
"What happened?"
"You are finally beginning to ask..."
"Why?"
He smiled gently.
"That is the difference between searching for facts..."
"...and searching for truth."
The mirror slowly faded.
The ripples disappeared.
The dark surface became ordinary stone once again.
Nothing remained.
Only Feroz's reflection.
He stared at it for several moments.
It looked familiar.
Yet somehow...
it no longer looked like the same person who had entered this room.
Without another word...
Suleiman turned toward the exit.
Feroz followed.
As they stepped into the ancient hallway once more...
the stone door behind them closed by itself.
A soft sound echoed through the corridor.
Neither of them looked back.
The golden lamps continued to burn peacefully along the walls.
Old carvings stretched into the distance.
For a while...
they simply walked.
Neither of them spoke.
Some lessons did not need words.
Feroz's thoughts remained with his father.
With the frightened child in the mirror.
With the questions that refused to leave him.
At last...
Suleiman broke the silence.
"Come."
"There is another path ahead."
Feroz quietly nodded.
He took one last look behind him.
The doorway had already become impossible to distinguish from the ancient wall.
It was as though the mirror had never existed.
Then he turned forward...
and continued walking beside Suleiman.
He did not know it yet...
but the next door would ask for something no lesson before it ever had.
