The man had a cultivation base of Immortal Spirit 4th realm, so he wasn't particularly afraid of Alex at all. As such, he didn't care enough to take what he said into mind either. Without waiting at all, the man challenged Alex.
The crowd grew even bigger now, all of the bored cultivators wanting to see the drama unfold. That was most likely the major part of it, but another part was that after this battle was over, the others would have to come and challenge Alex as well.
That had been their plan. Everyone would challenge Alex one at a time, making his life hell with the constant challenges that would come at him nonstop. If they could have those challenges last throughout the night, they could go into the morning and force Alex to take them again.
That was how communities fought outsiders in general.
