Pearl considered the patriarch's words for a few seconds before turning to his grandfather. "Will something bad happen if I fail the test?"
Bai Jingshen laughed wryly. "You won't fail the test. The issue is in the other direction."

Bai Jingshen gave a small nod and Pearl did as he was told. He used his claw to cut his other paw and let the blood drip a few drops onto the stone slab, adding fresh blood to the layer of dried blood within the slab.
