Sabrina stepped back slowly, putting a little distance between them. Her arms dropped to her sides.
Josh didn't move. He looked at her like he didn't want to breathe wrong and make her disappear again.
"I shouldn't have hugged you," she said quietly. "I just… forgot for a second."
His brows pulled together. "Forgot what?"
"That you have someone. Jessica," she said. Her voice was steady, but her hands fidgeted slightly. "You're with her, Josh. And I'm not trying to get in the way of that."
Josh opened his mouth to speak, but she raised her hand a little.
"I know it's not my business. I just wanted to clear the air. I'm keeping my distance because I respect what you have with her. That's all."
Josh looked down at the ground for a second, then back at her.
"I get it," he said.
His tone wasn't angry. It wasn't defensive. Just tired. Honest.
