Major General Creseul did nothing wrong. He didn't insult Khan nor try to be impolite. His stance had been completely welcoming despite the political limitations of the interspecies treaties and his status.
Yet, the General had also lied, opting to play politics, and that couldn't fly with Khan. It couldn't anymore since the regulated universe was beyond those rules now. War had descended, so everything had changed, especially Khan.
Everyone knew each species in the joint alliance would have tried to resort to strategies to salvage assets and benefit from the war. That was normal political behavior with a hint of self-preservation. Nothing could have stopped it from happening, but Khan could now showcase the consequences of such decisions.
The rulebook had changed. Politics could work in peaceful times, but a war that put the entire regulated universe at risk demanded strength. It also needed a streamlined chain of command and powerful leaders, which those Generals weren't.
