Chapter 4 - Ch.4: Home

Seamlessly gliding through the brush of the woods he makes his was deeper and deeper into the darkness of the Gleamhill woods, or Gleamwood as the locals refer to it, the forest was alive with sounds of the insects and woodland animals calls and chirps from all over, they could be heard as Shaun made his way along his usual route, rabbits and deer scattering at the presence of him moving about before finally coming to a stop when realising he wasn't after them, after about an hour Shaun comes to a stop under the thickest tree around, near a faintly luminescent pond, its water had a faint lime green glow coming from the moss and insects that live around it, he tilts his head up and looks at his home of 10 years.

A modern looking wooden log cabin suspended 70 feet in the air with the tree growing right through the center, it was made to look like the tree had impaled the house from the ground up, looking closer you would see the rough wooden logs bound together by thick steel cable imbedded in to each log and wrapped around for good measure, clamped into the tree by large 3 thousand pound iron rods, 4 of them in total, 2 below and 2 above, the house only weighed around about one thousand six hundred pounds but Shaun wanted to be prepared.

Crouching low Shaun springs high like he was on an overly tightened trampoline, leaving leaves and twigs to flutter and roll away from the sudden gust, with the way he angled himself Shaun lands lightly on the outstretched wrap around balcony that jutted out from the cabin that overlooks the luminescent pond, it was serene and peaceful, unless you could jump like him there was no other way to reach the cabin, so he never had to lock the beautiful cherrywood door and no-one entered the woods this deep unless they were camping or hunting, which wasn't all that common around here since there were much better parts away from where the cabin was located, he did have a moderate sized manual pulley elevator that could pop out the middle of the cabin, but that was only for emergencies incase he needed to leave without making much noise or was bringing back furniture for his home that was a little too big to jump with or fit through the door, in those cases he would just jump up, release the lift and then take it down for the item, he never wanted someone to stumble onto the lift mechanism while below so he never built one, there was no point since he could just leap to his home when needed.

Opening the door the first thing to come into view other than the dim light of the room was the small electric fireplace flickering away with a popping sound every now and then to imitate a real fireplace, giving the living room a warm peaceful glow, the maroon colour couch was positioned at an angle so as to not be pointed directly at the fireplace and open up the room a little, the black thick rug place between the two with a small brown coffee table in the middle, book placed pages down on it mid read, breathing in you could smell the earthy aroma of the room mixed with the vanilla and sandalwood incense burning on the island counter separating the living room and the open kitchen, Shaun smiles "Home at last" He says to himself. Hanging his cloak he walks over to the couch and picks up the open book, memorising the page number Shaun places the book back down closed properly and walked to his cot set in the corner in the far side of the cabin changing out of his dark blue jeans, black hoodie and blue t-shirt.

Laying down and closing his eyes he relaxes and falls into a deep almost comatose state, unfortunately this will not be a peaceful sleep but one frought with dreadful memories of his past.
