Chapter 36 - ArmSys Limited (10)

Writhing around in pain, Theodore Sharpe looked up at Eddie and Vincent.

"Mercy mercy, please" he begged. [WHO THE FUCK ARE THESE OLD MEN,] he screamed internally, [I'M GOING TO DIE, I'M GOING TO DIE, I'M GOING TO DIE, I'M GOING TO DIE, I'M GOING TO-]

"If you wish" replied Eddie with an empty stare.

"Tha-" began Sharpe before he was cut off, literally. Eddie had resummoned his yari and driven the blade deep into his left kneecap with a sickening crunch. Nausea spread from Sharpe's stomach across his body, followed by a tsunami of raw unadulterated pain that seemed to drown out the entire world. Mucus and tears mixed as they ran down the businessman's face from his nose and eyes respectively. The self proclaimed great man whimpered in the face of true power. Vision blurred, Sharpe looked up at Eddie with pleading eyes. The old man's expression remained blank, vacant and focused. Eddie withdrew the yari and plunged it deep into Sharpe's right kneecap with such force the blade severed the man's leg below the knee. It was too much for the businessman, he could barely process the pain from his destroyed knees and missing leg. His entire world faded into the inky blackness of the void.

"Done with your revenge?", asked Vincent in a sincere tone.

Eddie nodded in reply, remaining silent.

Nathaniel and Diana, who had been rushing across the tarmac towards the two old men, finally arrived at the duo. The former FBI agent, puffing, said "We… need to… get out… of here… now!"

Vincent threw open the doors of a nearby aircraft hangar containing a Roeing Airliner.

"There is no way we're taking a plane," exclaimed Diana with bewilderment.

Suddenly, a dozen guards all wielding ArSys assault rifles flooded out of the various doors from nearby hangars. Eddie, Nathaniel ,Vincent and Diana all rushed into the plane. Vincent carried Diana and Nathaniel carried the wheelchair into the plane. Just as they closed the door to the aircraft, the guards arrived into the hangar. Immediately the two old men sprinted into the cockpit and began flicking various switches and dialing numerous knobs.

"Hey, hey!" shouted Diana, "what are you guys doing? You can't fly a plane!"

"Now, now Diana," replied Vincent, "we can actually. It has been a few years admittedly by Eddie here still has his aviation license.""

"What about your aviation license?" asked Nathaniel with a nervous look as he strapped both him and Diana into the seats usually reserved for airline staff.

"Never had one," replied Vincent with a smirk, "never needed one".

With a flick of one final switch, Eddie brought the four Coles Coyce jet engines to life. They began with a low rumble but built to a quick roar as the Roeing airplane began to roll forwards. Realising what they were doing, the guards darted out of the way and headed back towards the hangar.

Eddie navigated the plane out of the hangar and onto the cold, icy tarmac of the airport runway. He began increasing the engine speed and the jets roar became a scream as the plane began to build speed.

"How do you two know how to fly a plane?" asked Nathaniel. [I know the two old men are highly capable but how the fuck do they have this kind of experience? Vincent knew exactly how to neutralise a tank BY HAND and Eddie effortlessly dispatched the guards. Just who the hell are these guys?]

Eddie remained silent for a moment as he gently pushed the yoke back and the Roeing airliner took to the skies. "Can't a man have a hobby?" he replied in a small, almost sad voice.

"Sorry," replied Nathaniel, "I'm sorry about Brandon. It all happened so fast, I am still trying to process what exactly happened."

"On the battlefield, there is no time to be shocked. You can process things later, because if you process them while in a firefight you're going to die."

Just as the engines of the Roeing airliner began to spin up, Romeo had regained consciousness. Groaning, he stood up slowly. His neuroprosthetic arms sparked and blood dripped down from his forehead. In his many years of service in the military and as a private bodyguard, he had never seen anyone as skilled as Eddie. [I need to get to Sharpe immediately] he thought, as he limped out of the Heathrow Airport makeshift hospital. Romeo saw Sharpe, bleeding and broken on the snow covered asphalt being attended to by several medics. Romeo rushed over, pain dancing and causing his vision to blur.

"Who did this?!" he demanded, neck muscles tensed and heartbeat pounding.

"Those old men and the guy with the wheelchair girl." replied one of the medics, who began to attend to Romeo's own wounds.

"Captain Marquez!" shouted Romeo, hands trembling.

One of the nearby guards immediately came to Romeo's side and replied, "Yes, sir."

"I want you in the Hurricane right now." ordered Romeo.

Captain Marquez immediately complied, heading to the hangar to pilot the Hurricane. The AFJ Hurricane was a fighter jet developed, designed and manufactured by ArmSys Limited exclusively for the United States Air Force. It was a marvel of modern engineering. The AFJ Hurricane was a long, sleek and slender triangle of destruction equipped with an array of weapons as well as the fastest jet engines available. It cost almost half a billion dollars each and marked a new generation of fighter jets. Uncle Sam had at least three thousand that the public knew of.

The Hurricane did not waste time turning and navigating the runway to take off. Instead Captain Marquez rolled the jet forwards until it was outside and used the jet's special vertical takeoff system called the Instant Jet System or IJS. Known among pilots as "darting", the Hurricane had numerous small jets it could fire short concentrated blasts of air to not only get itself airborne instantly but to also dodge enemy fire. The Hurricane exploded upwards and Captain Marquez gunned the jet engines to pursue the Roeing airliner.

In the Roeing airliner, Eddie put the aircraft into autopilot mode with the destination set to be Paris and left the cockpit. Vincent followed behind.

"Isn't someone supposed to pilot the plane?" asked Diana in a nervous voice.

"If we get blown up it won't matter kiddo," replied Eddie with a small reassuring smile, "but that's not going to happen. If you and Mr FBI can keep it level, we'll be fine."

Nathaniel and Diana headed into the cockpit, sitting down into the captains' chairs.

Eddie and Vincent headed to the back of the plane and opened one of the doors. Instantly air was sucked out of the plane and the wind began to howl. They stood side by side, hundreds of metres above the ground. The Hurricane in hot pursuit.

"Do you remember the fighter jet we took down in Bolivia?" asked Eddie with a smile.

"The one at the airport or the one above that lithium mine?" answered Vin with his own smirk.

"The one above the mine, we're going to take it down in a similar way." replied Eddie, his grin growing wider.

"What do you m-" began Vincent, cut short by Eddie who used his shadow pocket dimension ability to store Vincent. Taking a deep breath, Eddie took a single step forward and fell. Instantly the howling wind became a scream as Eddie accelerated, the Hurricane jet rapidly approaching. Captain Marquez, piloting the Hurricane, saw something unbelievable. One of the old men had leapt from the Roeing airliner and was hurtling towards the fighter jet. [What the hell is a single man going to do against a jet], thought the pilot as he prepared to engage the IJS and dart out of Eddie's trajectory.

Suddenly a loud whoosh boomed and the Hurricane jet darted to the left to avoid the oncoming Eddie. The old man responded instantly. As though he had an invisible ball in his hand, he reeled up and made an over arm throwing motion. Shadows coiled like flames and erupted from Eddie's palm - ejecting Vincent from his pocket dimension. Vin hurtled through the air as the Hurricane darted into his trajectory. In his hands Vin held a 40mm grenade launcher which he unleashed at the fighter jet at point blank range. The effect was instantaneous. A series of explosions rocked the Hurricane, sending it tumbling downwards. The shockwave pushed Vincent back towards Eddie, who promptly re-stored the man in his pocket dimension. Once again using his ability, Eddie summoned his ArmSys JumpPack directly onto his back. Designed for elite paratroopers, the JumpBack was the closest thing ArmSys had to a genuine jetpack. Eddie immediately fired up the JumpBack, flying back up towards the Roeing Airliner and cutting the engine just as he reached the open door. He calmly step inside from midair, grinning at the dumbfounded pair of Nathaniel and Diana.

"Don't worry kiddo," smirked Eddie, "Uncle Eddie just saved the day."
