Chen simply sat there, watching Skyy breathe slowly and steadily in his arms. After everything that had happened, he still couldn't quite believe that Skyy was alive. Only a short while ago, he had been certain that he was going to lose him. Now, Skyy's chest rose and fell gently, his body warm against Chen's, and Chen could finally allow himself to breathe again.
Nothing in the world could have prepared him for what happened next.
There was a knock on the door.
An actual knock.
Chen's entire body stiffened.
He slowly turned his head toward the cabin door, his eyes widening as he wondered for a moment whether he had imagined it. No one should have been out here. The cabin was surrounded by wilderness, and as far as he knew, they hadn't encountered another living person anywhere nearby.
Then came another knock.
This time, it was followed by a soft, husky voice.
"Is anyone in there…? Please. I need help."
Chen frowned.
