Chapter 10 - Lantern Festival

In the morning of the Lantern festival in the village, all villagers are busy preparing and cooking food. They also believe that they need to be productive on that day so that they can have a healthy body and have good luck throughout the year. Early in the morning, Prince seems to be worried. He asks Jane and Adam if they saw Nini, but they say that they did not, so they agree to split up and find Nini. As they ask a villager, he says that he saw Nini with Mrs. Liu. Mrs. Liu also believes that being productive on the Lantern festival can bring them good luck and good health throughout the year, that is why she asks Nini to go with her to the seaside and get another set of fabrics. Mrs. Liu shares some of her knowledge and skills in designing with Nini. They stay the whole day with Mrs. Liu at the seaside, and later Mr. Liu fetches them to go back. Prince is still worried because he still doesn't trust Mrs. Liu that much. Prince, Adam, and Jane are in their agreed meeting place and they are waiting for Nini. Prince and Adam are worried, while Jane is complaining and suggesting they start answering the riddles. Later on, Nini arrives, and they ask her where she has been. Nini didn't actually say that she was designing the whole day with Mrs. Liu because she promised her to keep it a secret. Jane notices that Nini is keeping a secret and finds her suspicious.

"Let's exchange our lanterns," Adam said.

They exchange their lanterns and answer the riddle. Prince keeps looking at Nini, and it's too obvious. Jane also notices that and she feels jealous. Nini and Adam win; they solve the riddle first because Prince is distracted. They agree that Prince and Jane will give their reward the other day.

"What does this lantern symbolize?" Nini said.

"Don't you know that after you release the lantern, you can make one wish?" Prince said.

"Really?" Nini and Jane say the same thing.

Nini closes her eyes and makes a wish. Jane and Adam do the same thing, while Prince keeps looking at Nini. They sit down and talk for a while. Jane and Adam ask about life in the city. They say that they have never been there and they envy Nini and Prince. Adam mentions that once in his childhood, he dreamed of becoming a professional doctor. He said that he admired his uncle, Mr. Liu. He was so close to Mr. Liu since he was a child. He saw how Mr. Liu served their village without expecting anything in return, and he also wants to do the same. He says that every time he hears someone getting ill in their village, he feels a sense of loss. He also says that that dream of his was the reason why he always helps Mr. Liu treat someone who is ill in their village, even though he feels that it is a pity that he didn't get a chance to further study medicine. They ask Jane about her dream, but she says that she does not have a dream. She said that she is used to the way she lived her life in their village. She knows that she does not belong to the city, and the only dream she has is to live in their village happily for the rest of her life. Nini and Prince are amazed by the perspectives of the two. After their talk, they go home and meet unexpected people.
