Chapter 6 - Nature in faith

Life with faith through nature is about seeing the same patterns in the world around us and in ourselves.

1. Nature shows us cycles, faith gives them meaning

A seed has to be buried in darkness before it grows. A forest burns and then comes back greener. Night always turns to morning.

Humans live the same way. We go through loss, waiting, starting over. Faith is what lets us read those hard seasons like nature does: not as the end, but as part of a cycle. Just as winter is not the death of the forest, grief is not the death of a person.

2. Interdependence

In nature, nothing lives alone. Trees share nutrients through roots, bees need flowers and flowers need bees, rain feeds rivers that feed the ocean that makes rain again.

We are built the same. We need each other to survive emotionally and spiritually, just like ecosystems need diversity. Faith often names this connection as something sacred: that caring for another person is like watering a plant, it keeps the whole system alive.

3. Humility and awe

Look at a mountain, an ocean storm, or the stars. They remind us how small we are, but also how much we belong to something bigger.

That feeling is where faith lives for many people. Not in proving everything, but in standing before something vast and feeling both humbled and held. Humans crave that: to know our life matters even though we are tiny in the scale of nature.

4. Growth requires surrender*

A tree doesn't force its leaves to grow. It responds to light, water, and seasons. It surrenders to conditions it cannot control.

Faith through nature teaches humans the same lesson: we can plant, we can tend, we can work hard, but we cannot control everything. Learning to trust the process, to let go after we've done our part, is what brings peace.
