In the world of Laer the official calendars of all countries begin at the year 237. The years before 237 were of little significance in the eyes of the inhabitants of Laer as the year 237 was terrorized by gigantic lighting storms that wreaked havoc upon the land. The Storms cleansed civilization of all technological and cultural accomplishments and killed 75 percent of the world population sending them back to small hunter and gatherer tribes.
The only thing that the survivors held on to from before the Storms were tales of powerful Sorcerers called Vessel Wielders who wielded weapons filled with magika called Vessels that were strong enough to wipe out entire countries.
Due to the massive change in environment caused by the Storms the people of Laer quickly evolved and at around the year 249 they split into two different subgroups. The Laerqe and the Huolrmians (commonly shortened to humans).
The Laerqe were in tune with the magika in world making them capable of performing magik many times more powerful than that of the Humans but their bodies were weakend. The Humans on the otherhand were physically stronger and sturdier but their ability to tap into the magika around them was terrible compared to the Laerqe.
Im the year 376 the Stormic Church was founded by the two races explaining the events of the world and their existance. The Stormic followers believed that the cause of the Storms was the god Tintreach unhappy with the way he shaped the world and wanting to change it. They also believe that the Laerqe and Humans acquired their characteristics from a single race that they call the Laeri.
For a time the Laerqe and Humans lived peacfully but the leaders of the two races wanted what the other had. The Laerqe leaders spread propaganda amongst their people telling them that the Humans were inferior to them. They claimed that while the Humans might be descended from the same race the Laerqe were descended from the Vessel Wielders and that it was their right to enslave the Humans.
The leaders of the Humans spread distrust amongst their people convincing them the the Laerqe were vile beings who could not be trusted and only wanted to conquer the Humans.
This lead to the 7 Year War. The war started in 384 and on the 12th day of the 3rd season of 391 the Laerqe took control of the last Human Kingdom and enslaved the entire race.
Overtime the Laerqe split into numerous countries that all wished to conquer the others. In the year 584 the countries were doing anything they could to get more power over the others from setting up academies to teach the children about battle from the age of 8 to forcing the Human slaves to work until they died.
