Chapter 5 - The Dark Wings of Him

I ran to the group of survivors, and I heard Toshio shout, "Hey! Edric!" I rushed over to him, and he said, "Thank goodness you're safe... the angel was draining your life force!" I looked back and said, "We're not safe on this planet... we have to find shelter somewhere." Toshio said, "Someone found an underground bunker, but I don't think it's a good idea for you to be with the others since it seems that the angel is targeting you for some reason." Out of thin air, Kill appeared in front of us. His white hair was now dirtied with blood as a large spear stayed lodged in his chest. Toshio murmured, "Oh, we're so screwed..." Kill said, "He's coming after you Edric. You need to hide somewhere... or he'll catch you and make me surrender." My eyes widened. "S-Surrender!? What's happening!?" Kill coughed up blood as he pulled the spear out of his chest. He growled and whispered, "He wants me... to do something terrible again."

He stabbed the spear into the ground, and disappeared. Toshio said, "At least we know what the main objective is." I nod and said, "I'm going back out there." "Excuse me!?" Toshio grabbed my shoulders and shouted, "Are you mad!? Your "master" risked his life to save you! Plus, the angel literally wants to kill you!" I brushed his hands off of my shoulders, and said, "This needs to stop, or it never will." Toshio frowned and said, "Then I'm coming with you! You can't do this alone!" I turned away and asked, "What about Wish?" He was about to protest, but he immediately went silent. He briefly nodded, and I said, "I... might come back. And we can talk some more. Like friends." Toshio smiled gently, and said, "Yeah. I'd be down."

I started running back. My head was feeling heavy and tight; my whole body tensing up as I kept running. I had to tough it out. For everyone on this planet. I stopped when I saw the angel kicking my master's body around like he was a ragdoll. I took in a deep breath, and shouted, "Stop it!" The angel quickly looked up at me, and my master grabbed the angel's wing and tore it off. The angel screamed and kicked him out of sight. After a few moments, the angel walked up to me. He looked absolutely battered and weakened, but that obviously wasn't the case. I frowned and looked him in the eye, despite being close to a mental breakdown. I said, "Don't mess with them anymore... just take me and leave them alone."

The angel grabbed my hand and said, "Kill warned you about this, didn't he?" I just stared at him, refusing to answer. He just sighed and said, "Anyhow, you'll be a huge help in convincing Kill to come back to us." He covered my eyes with a blindfold, and the atmosphere suddenly changed in an instant. We teleported someplace else. Still holding onto my hand, he led me somewhere. I heard a door behind me close, and I was suddenly picked up and placed down on a table-like object. He pushed me down, and strapped me to the table. He took the blindfold off of my face, and I quickly looked around the room. The walls were white and so was the ceiling. The floors were covered in white tile, and when I turned to my head to the right, there was a large window that showed a dark room.

I looked back up at the angel, and he asked, "Are you done taking in your surroundings?" I looked back at the wall to my left, and I couldn't even see the door. The angel grabbed my chin and made me face him. He said, "Don't even think about trying to escape. I think we both know that a lowly human like you can't possibly leave." I was about to say something back to him, but the lights in the room to my left flashed on. I slowly looked over at the large window, and saw my master and Wish at the front of the window. Behind them was Kill and Poth sitting on the floor, watching quietly as the other two were banging on the window while screaming.

It's not like I could hear them either. I couldn't even hear them hitting the window. Wish punched the window, and her fist quickly started bleeding. She retreated back while my master stood still, staring at me with worried eyes. Why did he look at me with such eyes? I already knew the answer to that. It lingered in the back of my mind, refusing to be clear. The angel took a black collar off of his neck, and said, "This collar will be the key to Kill's negligence to return. Are you prepared, you lot?" He put the collar around my neck and I shut my eyes, thinking that something was about to happen. A few moments later, the angel said, "Ah... so he didn't give in. Even after I pierced his chest with a spear from Aries."

It looked like Kill said something, but I couldn't hear him. The angel suddenly tore the collar off of me and got closer to me. He said, "Be prepared to never breathe again." I began struggling, but I couldn't free myself from the straps. The angel laughed, and disappeared right before my eyes. I looked at the window, and noticed that my master was missing. I heard a loud stomp and quickly looked to my left to see the angel again. He was holding a box cutter. The closer he got, the more I felt like my breath was going to leave my body. He stabbed my shoulder, and I winced while staring at my bleeding shoulder. He chuckled and said, "Tough, aren't we?"

He moved the knife to my face, and said, "I can see why he kept you despite being a human. You don't look half bad for someone who's been lied to for so many years." I gave him a confused look, and he said, "Yes, he lied to you. You may be merely a human, but he gave you his immortality." He tore my shirt off, and the wound in my shoulder was slowly closing up. "But... he said that he didn't give me immortality... what..." The angel laughed and said, "But his immortality is different, considering that he's the son of a battle dragon god. Unlike the others, he can feel pain." I bit his hand, and with a muffled voice I shouted, "That's not true! You're lying! He can't feel pain!"

The angel pulled his hand out of my mouth and punched me in the face. "Filthy ingrate. Would you believe someone who took you from your home to "teach you a lesson"? Or would you believe in me? A literal sign of peace to you mortals?" I bared my teeth at him and shouted, "It's impossible for me to hate him! He's... he's..." I swallowed my nervousness and pride in what was now nothing down, and said, "He's the kindest, and coolest person I've ever met... I hurt him, and I'm just paying the price for it!" The angel rolled his eyes and said, "You certainly aren't the person from your past self anymore. Then again... you refuse to say his name."

He grabbed my neck with his hand, and asked, "What's your master's name? Is your grudge against him truly gone?" I clicked my tongue and freed my right arm to grab the angel's wrist. With his grip around my throat still strong, I managed to say, "His name... is Quincy! I won't allow you... to talk shit about him any longer!" The angel glared down at me with disgusted eyes. "You love him, don't you? How pitiful." He let go of my neck and pulled his arm away from my grasp. He popped his knuckles and said, "I'm going to enjoy hurting you to the fullest." Suddenly, the entire room started to shake. A large dragon crashed through the ceiling, and grabbed the angel with his claws.

He threw the angel through the glass window, and it completely shattered. I stared at the dragon for a moment before realizing that it was Quincy. He carefully used one of his large claws to snap the restraints, freeing me from the table. I sat up, and said, "Thanks..." He quickly transformed into his hybrid form, and grabbed me. He flew back through the ceiling and a bright light blinded me for a second before my eyes adjusted, allowing me to see where we were. A lone white building sat in the middle of a seemingly endless grassy plain. Kill appeared next to us, and Wish flew up with Poth close behind her. Kill said, "This place... shouldn't exist right now. The bastard..."

Hundreds of people appeared from the grass, and they all started cheering and chanting. For Kill. Wish murmured, "This is creepy... what is happening?" All of the people suddenly stopped chanting Kill's name, and started screaming and chanting another. "Asriel! Asriel! Asriel!" The angel was flying towards us, but his wings looked different. They were black, covered in tar. So was his once golden hair. Kill frowned and said, "That's not Asriel. He's an imposter." I looked down at the thing and felt something strange. Before I thought more about it, my head started to hurt. Wish said, "He sure as hell doesn't look like an angel either. What is he?" She looked at her father with a concerned face.

"A lowly demon from the depths of hell." The thing approached us and said, "That's not very nice of you, God. Especially since I overpowered you and your children." The wicked grin on his face made this situation feel a lot worse. He chuckled and said, "Besides, I think you know why I want the mortal." I glanced at Kill, and he had a dark look on his face. Poth said, "Then we'll protect him in any way we can." The thing sighed and said, "It's a little unfortunate that you still haven't given up hope yet. But I can't afford to lose face. After all..." He forced me out of Quincy's arms and flew further into the sky. He shouted, "I can't let a couple of arrogant bugs ruin my day!"

I had thought that his motivation was a "gods are too powerful and I'm going to stop them" cliche, but I was sure wrong about that.
