Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: I Won't Let Anyone Say That About You

Ye Xiaomo drooped his head softly, and Ye Fei said, "Did you get into a fight and get hurt?"

Before Ye Xiaomo could answer, Ye Fei lifted his T-shirt.

In summer, clothes are thin, making it easier to get hurt.

As soon as the T-shirt was lifted, Ye Fei saw patches of bruises and scratches on Ye Xiaomo's body, with two places where the skin was broken.

The unbroken areas were also bright red, almost about to break the skin.

Ye Fei immediately started trembling with anger, "Let's go, we're going to the hospital first!"

At times like this, Xiaomo's injuries are important, as children's bones are soft and they can easily get internal injuries.

The skin is also delicate, and there's a risk of infection if it's scratched.

Ye Fei locked the electric bike by the roadside and flagged down a taxi, holding Ye Xiaomo as they got in.

"Did you hide it because you didn't want Mom to worry?" Ye Fei asked as she held Ye Xiaomo in the car.

Ye Xiaomo hung his head in silence, never intending to let Ye Fei know why he was fighting.

But now it seemed he couldn't hide it anymore.

"But by doing this, you make me worry even more. I keep thinking, what if I was careless and didn't notice, and your injuries got worse or even became life-threatening? Do you know how sad and guilty I would feel then?"

"Mom, I'm sorry, I didn't think of that," Ye Xiaomo said, tugging at Ye Fei's clothes while nestled in her arms.

This little guy only calls her Mom when he knows he's done something wrong.

Usually, he just calls her Xiao Fei.

Looking at this adorable little guy, Ye Fei just felt her heart tremble, terrified of losing him.

Ye Fei gave him a heavy kiss on the forehead, "From now on, no matter what happens, you must not hide it from me, understand?"

"I got it," Ye Xiaomo nodded obediently, then added, "But it really doesn't hurt. It just looks serious."

"If it doesn't hurt, why did you grimace when I held you?" Ye Fei revealed with a cold face.

"..." Ye Xiaomo fell silent.

"Didn't you just promise me that you wouldn't hide things from me anymore?" Ye Fei reminded him.

Ye Xiaomo nodded, and Ye Fei asked, "So why did you get into a fight? I know you're not a child who fights for no reason."

Ye Xiaomo pursed his lips, and Ye Fei didn't rush him.

After a while, Ye Xiaomo said softly, "It was Wang Zishuai from the neighboring Moon Class. He said I'm a fatherless bas... bastard, and that you got pregnant with me when you were young because you have no self-respect."

"You're not lacking in self-respect. He can say that about me, but he can't talk about you like that! I won't let anyone speak about you that way!" Ye Xiaomo said angrily.

Ye Fei was silent.

She never thought it was shameful to raise Ye Xiaomo by herself at a young age.

So she was never secretive about being a single mother; everyone from teachers to parents to little kids at the kindergarten had seen her during events or pickup times.

They also knew she was only 24 and had a four-year-old son.

Calculations would reveal when she got pregnant.

She didn't think there was anything disgraceful about it, but she didn't expect some people's thoughts to be so filthy.

Don't kids just hear things from adults anyway?

"Besides him, has anyone else said that?" Ye Fei asked.

Ye Xiaomo shook his head, "No, just Wang Zishuai. Everyone else at the kindergarten likes me. I'm like the popular kid there."
