Chapter 18 - Chapter 17

"Master, there is a party that is being hosted by the Young's, should we attend?" A small man bowed his head in respect of the mafia leader in front of him. This man would lash out at any time, for anything unexpected. However his men loved him dearly.

"What is the party for?" The leader spoke while drinking his red wine. Julian Raymond, a typically psychopath, born from the poorest of the lands of the US, he rose to his power within twenty years of desire to be powerful. Killing anything in his way, only leaving his lair for small business trips around the world in dark world.

"It's a masquerade ball, however it is a debut ball for his youngest daughter into the business society." The man spoke with uneasiness in his tone. He was scared to be in the Master's presence for anything. Julian brushed his gaze off the man and looked to his second in command.

"This daughter?" The man spoke in a hushed tone, speaking only to his general. Freeman was the name of the general. He nodded and came closer to the Master.

"Mackenzie Young, age 15. She graduated high school last month and has also been the one that the business might go to." He spoke bowing his head in respect. Julian held his glass tightly then looked to the man that was shaking like a leaf.

"Send a message that we'll be attending. Leave now." Julian commanded the servant left the room with relief, he wasn't harmed in any way. "Find out more on the youngest daughter of the Young family." He looked to his general, who nodded and left the room.

'Who is she?' Julian thought to himself as he poured himself another glass of fine wine. 'To be hidden from the outside world for so long?'

"Father!" I shouted as he walked down the hallway, he turned when he heard the title and waited for me to catch up. "The men attending, who are they?" He chuckled as he went down another hallway, most likely to his secret office.

"It's out now that there is another child from the Young family, in the dark world. The business world will not know until tomorrow, where it will be plastered on the media. These leaders will come from around the world, you could say that the US, Iraq, and Europe's, most deadly leaders are coming.

"I received a letter from Julian Raymond that he will be coming, age thirty-four, US's most wanted killer that they can't get there hands on." I looked at him as he opened the doors to the library. He took a step forward then grabbed me by the wrist. Dragging me down the rows to the restricted section, he had all the maids clear out.

"Why are we here?" I asked as he walked to a bookshelf and pulled out a journal. He opened it to a certain page and handed me the book. I skimmed the page and saw that it had small amount of info about each mafia leader.

"You've reminded me that I need better ambassadors to solve my problems. You were right, they didn't give me the full truth when they went to Manchester, however I don't want to place more weight on your shoulders, can I request that you work for me in the dark world?" I looked up from the page I was reading.

'Am I hearing right?', Standing there quietly processing what he just said, I watched him gauge my reaction. This would be a perfect opportunity to get my answers that I spoke about. I set the journal on the table beside me and double checked he wasn't kidding.

"What would I gain from this?" He stood there thinking about my question. He tilted his head then looked away. He was nervous about something, more like questioning his actions.

"Freedom, from being constantly watched." I raised my eyebrows slightly then held out my hand. He watched with shock then did the same. I knew I was being watched, for every movement I did, it was reported to this old man.

"For how long?" I asked, taking in a breath. "Will this give me a chance toward the inheritance?" He chuckled and shook his head.

"For about a year. And for your second question, I'll have to think about it." We shook hands, starting our mutual agreement for the better of our status in the dark world.

It was a day before the party, my nerves we on end. I was forced into a late dress fitting because, my dress was custom made, that was produced by another dear friend. The dress was a dark blue with multiple layers, fitting for a masquerade ball. My mask was also the same blue with feathers, and gold glitter spread.

"It looks beautiful on you, Miss." Maria came in while the fitting was being done, I loved the dress, it felt light even though there were many layers, the back was open leaving my skin to show, however it did not bother me.

"It fits, thank you for the beautiful dress." I spoke to the seamstress with a smile and gave a little twirl watching it fan out. She smiled back then helped me change out of the dress quickly before she had to leave for another appointment.

"Are you ready?" Jace walked in after the seamstress left, he decided he wanted to be surprised by waiting another day. I looked at him with a clueless look and he chuckled.

"For the party tomorrow, it's a big day for you." He smiled and I shrugged my shoulders not knowing the answer. Jace has been distant since I told him I'm not going to have a date for the party, but he's slowly becoming his old self.

"Honestly, I don't think many of us are. How is your summer vacation going?" I asked lightening up the mood. He smiled and spoke about the small trip he went three days ago, arriving here first before he got home.

"So basically you're not ready for the party, at all." I summed up the events and he shook his head. "You are?" He nodded his head and picked up necklace that I had taken off, it was the necklace that Jacob bought for my graduation.

"I was ready when you mentioned it the first time. How has your summer break been?" I looked at him then got up and gently took the necklace from him. Placing it in the jewelry box on my dresser.

"It has been good so far. Let's go do something, before I'm busy with business affairs for the next week." I took my wallet out of the dresser drawer and put on a pair of sandals with a cute sun dress. He waited patiently for me to get ready, typical.

"Where are we going?" Jace paused to take a look a me and he smiled brightly. 'Oh no.' I thought to myself, but smiled back at him.

"Should we go to the movies?" He asked will directing his gaze to something else. I nodded to his question and smiled, 'I hope this doesn't go farther than I plan' I thought as I lead him to the garage where my new personal driver awaited, Logan.

"Miss, where are you going?" I looked at him, as much as I missed Johnathan I was happy he was now living with his family, coming in for tiny things. I convinced father to let him leave, but also to leave him to his family.

"Take us to the Crystine Movie theater, please." I asked as Jace told me the location. Riding in the backseat, we went back and forth asking each other what we wanted. Even though Jace was well known because of his family name, that didn't prevent him from going around and enjoying himself.
