Chapter 9 - The First Day/Homesick

Once all everyone who had received an offer had accepted or rejected them. All of the young men returned wearing their mew shiny white armor. The new members were listed and announced via message magic to be displayed in all allianced villages. Wes, Z, and Sherwin had yet to hear about Wang. Everyone was dismissed, and the old masters gathered the boys. "You have a few days to take money back home and tell your families goodbye. Your training will be intense and twice that of normal soldiers." Master Wolf told them.

The boys nodded. They thanked the masters for the opportunity and returned home. The biggest dilemma they now faced was not being able to tell their families of the new assignment.

When Wes walked through the door, his parents were ecstatic. Their son had been placed amoung the top houses. This was quite an honor. Wes gave his parents $15000 of his initial payment. He still needed to purchase gear. Such things were expensive in the big city. Now his parents would be able to not worry so much about money. They both worked tirelessly to give him the best life possible, and he was able to repay them. Wes then went to some of the shops and things around town. He bought some necessary supplies from the list of things he would need. Finally, he went to the blacksmith.

As he entered John, the old blacksmith smiled. "I have something special for you." He pulled out a shiny long sword. Inscribed in ancient runes it says "Silent One". This was crafted specifically for the boy when he first started training. "You are on your way. Thank you for the help you gave me while you were younger. This blade is yours and I hope that you will carry it always. Is there anything else I can get you while you are here?"

"Thank you, John. I would like another long sword and two short swords if possible. If possible, could you make the long sword and one of the short swords blackened? Also, is it possible for you to make me a set of 10 of those hidden daggers you made previously. I haven't seen anything like them in the big city." Wes said, happy to help his community over the big city.

"Yes, I can do that." John answered."They will be ready before you leave. I will bring them to you when they are done.

Wes smiled and paid for them. He now only had $1000 left. He knew food and lodging would be expensive. However, he would be able to split the cost with his friends.

Wes walked around in his ceremonial armor without his helmet on. The assassin armor was much lighter. However, he could not wear it around town. He spoke to many people as he traveled around. Many wished him good luck, and the Elders of the town even congratulated him on such a great accomplishment. Wes was sitting near a fountain in the middle of the city. Two delicate hands were placed over his eyes.

"Guess who it is?" said a sweet voice he had missed while he was gone.

"Serene, I hope you have not missed me too greatly." Wes said, grabbing her hand and pulling her around onto his lap. "I have most certainly missed you. I am disappointed I will have to go soon. Do you intend to enter the trials next year?"

"I hope I am able to. However, I know I am not as strong as you. Perhaps if nothing else, I can at least move up there and live off you, mister big shot." she made a teasing face before kissing him softly. "I do hope you will stay safe wherever you go."

"Of course I will. For the next few months, I believe we will only be training anyway. Try not to worry too much." Wes had a confident smile he always wore when near her.

"Shall we all have dinner tonight to celebrate?" asked Serene.

"Yes, we should. If we can get everyone together tonight, it would be amazing. We don't have a lot of time, unfortunately." Wes answered.

Serene ran off to gather all of their friends and family to celebrate the boys' great achievements. They all met at a fine restaurant. The food looked amazing and delicious. The owner came out and congratulated the boys himself. The food was also given to them for free. Everyone enjoyed themselves well into the night. After everyone had left, the boys ventured into the woods for some privacy.

"I have everything I need prepared. I also have $1000 left for when we get back." Wes told the others.

"John said he will be bringing our weapons to the carriage before we leave tomorrow. I am completely prepared to begin training as well. I have $5000 left as my parents would not take more than $10000." Z said a bit frustrated with his parents.

"I have $5000 as well. My parents took the same stance on taking my money. I do have all the supplies I should need as well. I will miss home, but I am ready for this next chapter." Sherwin said.

They were all excited to see what happened next. Early in the morning, boys got ready to leave. All the supplies packed up they waved goodbye to their loved ones. "We shall return soon, more glorious than ever!" Yelled the boys in unison as they left. Their parents, John, Serene, and a few others stood waving as the boys headed out.
