Chapter 31
RAE KELLER
It is only dinner.
It is just dinner.
I had to keep reminding myself even as I nodded and went inside the room behind the iced cream shop to quickly change into a very simple and cheap dress I had purchased with my daughter some weeks ago.
As I pulled it over my head and slipped my foot into the also cheap but fitting sandals, I tried not to think too much on the fact that Enola was not around to make her cheerful, unasked but always given anyways comment on my dress and how I looked. I would get my daughter back, that was a given.
Just dinner.
Just food and talking, nothing special.
I reminded myself as I walked back out of the hiding room and while I had not really worn anything crazy or elegant, I still blushed a furious red when I saw Arlan stand from his chair, also wearing the jacket he had discarded earlier that morning. He was smiling at me, his eyes alight with pleasure and excitement. He looked so good I could skip dinner and eat him instead.
