After the applause died down, Winters returned to the main topic and continued the strategy meeting with the reserve officers.
He picked up the graphite stick and encircled "Bend Gate" on the large map.
"I have explained the deployment for this battle to you all," Winters said to the reserve officers, "If fighting is like comparing swordsmanship, then this place is the enemy's throat, the most heavily defended point, and where we can deliver a fatal blow to [Perseverance].
"Attack the place the enemy must defend, defend the place the enemy must attack; that's about this location."
As he spoke, Winters drew circles around "Bend Gate," making this narrow entrance incredibly conspicuous:
"The struggle for this place will be the most difficult, dangerous, and bloody part of the whole battle. It must be tackled by the bravest, most combat-skilled, and fearless of sacrifice men."
Winters paused for a moment, then uttered a sentence that left all present reserve officers dumbfounded:
