"I'm sorry, it's my fault."
Duan Xingzhi's voice sounded somewhat heavy, with a hint of a stifled sob, not quite like his usual self.
Bai Zhi moved a little, lifted her head to look at him, but only saw his tense jaw, so she shifted slightly and saw his face filled with loss and sorrow.
"Why are you acting like this all of a sudden?"
Duan Xingzhi gently touched the back of her head, looking at her with tender affection yet with a face full of apologies.
"If it weren't for me, you wouldn't have suffered so much grievance."
Bai Zhi sighed lightly, then lay back, looking at the ceiling, her eyes bright like stars.
"I don't feel I've been wronged, I'm really not."
Bai Zhi understood in her heart that what she had gone through wasn't really an injustice, perhaps Duan Xingzhi felt even more wronged than she did.
Duan Xingzhi's fingers gently brushed her cheek, "Are you really not wronged?"
"What's there to be wronged about? This is the path I chose myself, isn't it?"
