The briefing room inside the Military Defense Area buzzed with a low, electric tension. Maps hovered midair, projected by mana-tech orbs, showing fault lines beneath the rift zones. Lea sat between Hugo and Marina, her fingers still faintly glowing with the residual warmth of her purification ability.
Commander Veyron stood at the front of the room, arms crossed, jaw sharp as carved stone. His amber eyes flicked from the map to Lea—then to Hugo, who had been glued to her side since the purification test.
And "glued" wasn't metaphorical.
Hugo's arm remained firmly around her waist, thumb gently brushing circles against her side as if she might crumble without constant touch.
Lea felt it.
Kael noticed it.
Veyron definitely noticed it.
But Hugo?
He was completely shameless.
