The air was crisp and fresh as we started the hiking scene for today's shoot. The production team had told us there wouldn't be any special challenge, just a simple hike to showcase "romantic couple moments." Romantic? I snorted inwardly. How ironic. I was walking beside a man I hadn't even glanced at since yesterday.
Hugo, as persistent as ever, kept a quiet pace beside me. His presence was like a shadow I couldn't shake off, though I made sure to keep my gaze fixed on the path ahead. He tried to match my pace, sometimes slowing down when I did, sometimes stepping ahead when I deliberately slowed down. He didn't say a word, as if respecting the wall I built. But I could feel his eyes on me. Heavy. Unrelenting.
I didn't want to acknowledge him. Not after everything. Not when my heart still refused to trust him.
But of course, peace was never an option.
