The next day, after breakfast, I stepped out of my room and found Hugo already waiting for me in the entrance hall. As usual, he acted like everything was normal, like the world didn't shift in awkward silence every time we were in the same room.
Outside, a sleek black car was parked, and Anderson, Hugo's manager, stood by the door with his tablet in hand. He gave me a polite nod when our eyes met.
"Morning, Mrs. Redrich," Anderson greeted as if calling me that was the most natural thing in the world.
I returned a stiff smile. That title still felt like it belonged to someone else.
