"I'm not the one refusing, Hugo!" My voice trembled as I glared at him, my fists clenching tightly by my sides. "It was you. You were the one who kept chasing me away from your territory. From your life. So why now? Why are you acting like this now—like we're some kind of couple?"
The words spilled out before I could stop them, sharp and bitter, slicing through the thick air between us.
"From the very start, it was always Nia in your eyes!" My breath hitched. "You never once looked at me. Never let me in. I was always… always outside your line. So why now?"
Hugo didn't flinch. He just stood there, his gaze quietly locked on me, as if my outburst didn't shake him at all. But I could see his jaw tightening, his fists slowly curling as if restraining himself.
