Chapter 33 - LIFE IS SMARTER THAN AI

Friday morning arrived.

The day Kyrah had been working toward for nearly two months was finally here.

The launch of HANEUL HOME.

Kyrah's alarm went off at six, but she had already been awake for several minutes, staring at the ceiling.

Her stomach was filled with butterflies.

Today wasn't just another presentation.

Today, HANEUL HOME would officially be introduced to the public, investors, industry partners, journalists, and some of the biggest names in the technology sector.

And Kyrah was going to stand in front of all of them.

She reached for her phone.

Before she could even check her messages, it began ringing.

Seojun.

Kyrah smiled and answered.

"Good morning."

"Hey, trooper."

His voice immediately made her smile.

"Are you ready for your big day?"

Kyrah sighed dramatically.

"Ready or not, I have to be ready."

"That's my project head."

"Don't remind me."

"You're the one who wanted the responsibility."

"I know."

"And you've earned it."

Kyrah smiled.

"Thank you."

There was a brief silence.

Then Seojun said, "You sound nervous."

"I am nervous."

"You've been through every possible test scenario."

"That doesn't mean I can't be nervous."

"You'll be fine."

"I hope so."

"You won't just be fine. You're going to be brilliant."

Kyrah smiled.

"Thanks."

Just then—

Ding-dong.

Her doorbell rang.

"Hold on," Kyrah said.

She walked toward the door, still holding the phone against her ear.

"Who is that?" Seojun asked.

"I don't know."

She opened the door.

A delivery man stood outside, holding a large, elegant box.

"Delivery for Ms. Kyrah?"

"Yes."

"Please sign here."

Kyrah looked at the box.

"What's this?"

The delivery man handed her the electronic signature pad.

She signed and carried the box inside.

She placed it on the table.

"Seojun?"

"Hmm?"

"Did you send me something?"

There was a pause.

"Open it."

Kyrah's eyes widened.

"You?"

"Happy launch day."

She carefully opened the box.

The moment she lifted the lid, she froze.

Inside was a breathtaking Leonel Rapelli dress.

Elegant.

Sophisticated.

Perfectly tailored.

Kyrah slowly lifted it from the box.

"Oh my God."

Seojun laughed.

"You like it?"

"Seojun…"

She ran her fingers over the fabric.

"This is so expensive."

"Don't worry about that."

"No, seriously. This is way too much."

"Kyrah."

His voice became more serious.

"I'm your boss, and I'm proud of you."

She looked at the dress.

"You accomplished a lot with this project."

He continued.

"You worked late nights. You handled problems nobody else even knew existed. You led the team through the final integration, and you got HANEUL HOME ready for today."

Kyrah's eyes softened.

"You deserve to look the part."

She smiled.

"You're the project head, remember?"

"I know."

"And today, everyone is going to know it too."

Kyrah held the dress against herself.

"I love it."

"I knew you would."

"It's beautiful."

"And Kyrah?"

"Yes?"

"Today could be bigger than just the launch."

She looked at herself in the mirror.

"What do you mean?"

"Do your job well today, and people will notice."

Kyrah smiled.

"Are you saying I might get promoted?"

"I'm saying you're ready for more responsibility."

She laughed.

"Now you're making me nervous again."

"Good."

"Seojun!"

He laughed.

"Go get ready."

"Yes, boss."

"I'm your boss."

"And I'm your project head."

"Exactly."

They both laughed.

---

By late afternoon, the launch venue was alive.

The hotel ballroom had been transformed into a futuristic showcase of technology.

Massive digital screens displayed the HANEUL HOME logo.

A sleek demonstration house had been constructed at the center of the room.

There were smart lighting panels embedded into the walls, automated blinds, temperature and humidity sensors, smart locks, security cameras, connected kitchen appliances, and an interactive home hub.

Guests moved around the room as technicians made final checks.

Journalists prepared their cameras.

Investors spoke quietly among themselves.

Executives from partner companies arrived one after another.

Kyrah stood backstage, looking at the crowd through the gap in the curtains.

Her heart raced.

Flora approached her.

"You look beautiful."

Kyrah turned.

"Really?"

"Really."

Xiumin joined them.

"The final system check is complete."

Kyrah immediately switched into work mode.

"Everything?"

"Everything."

"Network?"

"Stable."

"Edge processing?"

"Stable."

"Cloud synchronization?"

"Stable."

"Security?"

"Fully operational."

Youning appeared beside them.

"And the live demonstration environment is isolated from the production environment."

Kyrah nodded approvingly.

"Good."

Flora smiled.

"See? Nothing to worry about."

Kyrah exhaled.

"That's easy for you to say."

"No. It's easy because we've prepared."

Kyrah smiled.

She looked down at herself.

The dress Seojun had given her fit perfectly.

She felt elegant.

Confident.

Powerful.

But underneath all of that, she was still the same Kyrah who had spent countless nights staring at system architecture diagrams and debugging automation protocols.

Today, however, she wasn't just part of the team.

She was its face.

---

The ballroom suddenly quieted.

The host stepped onto the stage.

"Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished guests, partners, investors, and members of the press…"

Kyrah took a deep breath.

"Today marks a significant step forward in intelligent home technology."

The HANEUL HOME logo appeared across the massive screen.

Applause filled the room.

Seojun stood near the front with several senior executives.

Beside him stood his mother.

Mrs. Park.

The moment her eyes landed on Kyrah backstage, her expression changed.

She recognized her.

The girl from the mall.

The girl she had seen with her son.

The girl who had been shopping for baby things.

Her eyes moved from Kyrah to Seojun.

Then back to Kyrah.

A small smile appeared on her face.

So this was her.

The woman her son had apparently been keeping from her.

And suddenly, everything made sense in her mind.

Her son had been hiding something.

A relationship.

Perhaps even more.

She looked at Seojun.

"Is that her?"

Seojun glanced toward the stage.

"Yes."

Mrs. Park smiled.

"She is beautiful."

"Mom…"

"And you never told me about her."

Seojun sighed.

"It's complicated."

His mother raised an eyebrow.

"Complicated?"

"Can we talk about this later?"

She smiled knowingly.

"Of course."

But she clearly wasn't planning to forget it.

---

The host continued.

"And now, please welcome the project head of HANEUL HOME, Ms. Kyrah…"

The applause began before Kyrah even reached the stage.

She walked out.

For a moment, the room seemed to stop.

Heads turned.

Conversations died down.

Even some of the executives who had been speaking moments earlier stopped to watch her.

Kyrah walked confidently toward the podium.

She could feel her heartbeat in her chest.

Then she looked at the audience.

And smiled.

"Good evening, everyone."

The room became completely silent.

"Today, we're not simply launching another smart-home product."

The first HANEUL HOME demonstration appeared behind her.

"We're introducing a new way for people to interact with their homes."

She explained the technology.

HANEUL HOME's edge-AI architecture allowed routine commands to be processed locally, reducing latency and minimizing unnecessary cloud communication.

Its context-aware inference engine allowed it to interpret multiple commands as one coordinated intention rather than treating each instruction separately.

She demonstrated how HANEUL HOME could recognize a user's departure routine.

With a single instruction, the system could lock the doors, switch off unnecessary appliances, adjust the thermostat, activate security monitoring, and optimize energy consumption.

"And the goal isn't simply automation," Kyrah explained.

"The goal is understanding."

She smiled.

"HANEUL HOME learns patterns within the user's chosen settings and routines. It can adapt to changing circumstances while maintaining privacy and security as core principles."

She moved toward the demonstration home.

"HANEUL HOME doesn't simply wait for you to tell it what to do."

She smiled.

"It learns how your home works with you."

A demonstration began.

The lights changed.

The blinds adjusted.

The thermostat responded.

The security system activated.

Everything happened almost simultaneously.

The audience erupted in applause.

Kyrah smiled.

Behind her, Flora looked proudly at Xiumin.

Youning nodded.

They had done it.

Months of work had come down to this moment.

Kyrah finished the presentation with one final sentence.

"This is HANEUL HOME."

The room exploded into applause.

Kyrah stepped away from the podium.

For a moment, she simply stood there and took it in.

She had done it.

They had done it.

---

Later, the formal presentation gave way to the launch reception.

Guests moved around the demonstration area, asking questions and testing the system.

Executives congratulated the team.

Investors wanted meetings.

Journalists wanted interviews.

Flora was already being pulled into conversations about the user-experience architecture.

Xiumin was explaining the sensor integration to a group of engineers.

Youning was surrounded by people asking about the AI inference system.

Kyrah finally managed to step away for a moment.

She reached for a glass of water.

Then she heard a familiar voice.

"Kyrah."

She turned.

Mrs. Park was standing there.

Kyrah immediately straightened.

"Mrs. Park."

The older woman smiled warmly.

"So you're Kyrah."

"Yes."

"I've heard quite a lot about you."

Kyrah glanced at Seojun.

He looked slightly uncomfortable.

"Mom…"

"What?" she asked innocently.

Then she turned back to Kyrah.

"You did an incredible job tonight."

"Thank you."

"I knew you were special when I saw you at the mall."

Kyrah blinked.

"You saw me?"

Mrs. Park smiled.

"Yes."

Seojun closed his eyes briefly.

"Mom."

"You were shopping with my son."

Kyrah's cheeks warmed.

"We were just—"

"Shopping for baby things," Mrs. Park finished.

Kyrah froze.

Seojun immediately stepped in.

"Mom, please."

She laughed.

"I'm not accusing anyone of anything."

Her eyes twinkled.

"I simply think you two have become very close."

Kyrah glanced at Seojun.

He looked embarrassed.

Mrs. Park smiled.

"Well, whatever the two of you are keeping from me…"

She paused.

"…I hope you know I'm happy to meet you."

Kyrah smiled politely.

"It's very nice to meet you too."

Mrs. Park reached out and gently squeezed Kyrah's hand.

"I'm glad my son has someone like you around him."

Kyrah didn't know what to say.

Before she could answer, another group of guests approached.

"Ms. Kyrah!"

She turned.

"Congratulations!"

"Your presentation was incredible."

"HANEUL HOME is remarkable."

"Could we have a few minutes to discuss the project?"

Kyrah laughed softly.

"Of course."

As she moved back toward her colleagues, Seojun watched her with pride.

Mrs. Park watched him watching Kyrah.

And her smile widened.

She knew her son.

Perhaps better than he realized.

There was something between them.

She just didn't know exactly what.

Yet.

---

By the end of the evening, the launch had been declared a success.

The HANEUL HOME team gathered together for a celebratory photograph.

Kyrah stood in the middle.

Flora beside her.

Xiumin and Youning behind them.

Seojun stood a little farther away with the senior executives.

The cameras flashed.

Kyrah smiled.

For the first time in weeks, she allowed herself to breathe.

HANEUL HOME was officially launched.

And tomorrow, she would finally get something else she had been waiting for.

Linda.

Kyrah pulled out her phone.

There was a message waiting.

Linda: Flight confirmed. See you tomorrow, bestie, with a heart emoji.

Kyrah's face lit up.

She quickly typed back.

Kyrah: I can't wait. Hurry up!

She put her phone away and looked around the room.

The launch was over.

The hard part was finally done.

Now she could look forward to the weekend.

To laughter.

To catching up.

To having her best friend beside her again.

without realizing it.
