The next day, the alarm clock rang, and Ye Anxin turned off the alarm. Groggily getting out of bed, she realized this room wasn't her old room at all! It was a completely unfamiliar environment! Ye Anxin sat on the bed for a while. Memories of yesterday slowly returned, and she finally remembered where she was.
Instinctively, Ye Anxin looked to the other side of the bed. It was empty, with no sign of anyone else! It seemed Mu Beiting hadn't returned last night at all! On the first day of their marriage, she was left alone in an empty room!
With a sigh, Ye Anxin went to the bathroom to brush her teeth and wash her face, then changed into her clothes from yesterday.
When she left the room and walked down the stairs, Pete arrived to pick up Mu Beiting. Seeing her come down, he looked at her with a pained expression, as if accusing her of betraying him.
Feeling guilty, Ye Anxin lowered her head, not daring to meet his eyes.
As Pete's gaze lingered on Ye Anxin, Mu Beiting's thin lips pressed into a line, and his cold eyes swept over as a warning.
Mu Beiting's presence was so intimidating that as soon as his gaze landed on Pete, Pete felt a chill run down his spine and quickly diverted his gaze from Ye Anxin.
Ye Anxin walked over and sat down next to Mu Beiting, holding onto his arm carefully. "Uncle, it really wasn't Pete's fault! Did you punish him?"
Mu Beiting pressed his thin lips tighter, his gaze dropping several degrees colder.
Noticing Mu Beiting's change, Pete broke out in a cold sweat. "No, no, the boss didn't punish me! He really didn't!"
It might have been better if Pete hadn't spoken because the gloom on Mu Beiting's face intensified, and he said without warmth, "You'd lie for her?"
Pete was speechless, utterly unsure of what to say.
Ye Anxin hadn't spent much time with Mu Beiting, and she didn't understand what his change meant. She blinked her shining eyes, puzzled, "Uncle, did you really punish him?"
Mu Beiting looked at her coldly and asked without expression, "You're that concerned about him?"
"It's not about concern or not, it's about responsibility. This matter…!" Ye Anxin didn't have the chance to finish her sentence, as Mu Beiting instantly caught her main point and said icily, "Responsibility? What responsibility is there between you?"
"I…! I…! I am, I am…!" Suddenly, Ye Anxin found herself struggling to communicate with Mu Beiting! She clearly didn't mean that, yet he always twisted her words!
Her stammering seemed to Mu Beiting like a sign of guilt. He abruptly stood up from the sofa. "Half a year's salary as penalty!"
With that said, Ye Anxin fell silent, and Pete forgot to breathe, incredulously staring at their boss.
"Uncle, you can't do this… This is my fault…!" Hearing that Mu Beiting was going to dock Pete's pay for half a year, Ye Anxin became truly frantic.
Unfortunately, Mu Beiting didn't listen and strode towards the door.
Before leaving, he stopped again and said without turning back, "Butler, arrange for someone to take the madam to school!"
