Once Shelly woke up, I took no time starting with the questions.
"Where's Richard?" I asked, irritation seeping into my voice. I couldn't help it.
"Oh, my god," she said, seemingly annoyed I even asked. "This is about him? I haven't seen him in years. If you do manage to find that loser, tell him he owes me money!"
I sighed. It looked like Richard was going to be harder to find than I thought.
"When and where was the last time you saw him? Did he say where he was going?" I needed information. The faster we could find this prick the quicker we could move on.
"I saw him last at divorce court. He owes me money, my alimony," she repeated. What was with people's obsession with money? It didn't seem like she was broke, either. She had a nice house, and she was maybe even a little bit fat.
"As for where he went, I have no idea. Maybe try the first hole in the ground you see." She continued, "I have no care for him anymore. He left me in so much debt, refused to get a job, just kept on babbling about some secret government agency..." she trailed off. Then a realization hit her, and her eyes lit up.
"Wait," she started, her voice barely above a whisper, "no, no it couldn't be. Was that lunatic right?"
"Ma'am," Hades interrupted, his hand pushing my arm back down. Oh, yeah, the one that was subconsciously reaching for my gun. "We're with the FBI. We just needed to talk to your ex-husband. He's wanted in connection to a few rather serious crimes."
"Oh," Shelly said, "of course. He is a lunatic, you know. Wait, then why did you tie me up??"
"For our own safety," I jumped in, "just a precaution in case you two were still working together."
After some half assed apologies from Hades and myself and a very irritated ex wife almost yelling at us, we untied the lady and were on our way. To where? No idea. I still think it would've been easier to just kill her. But Hades had a soft spot for regular people, I didn't.
Everyone has committed some atrocity at some point.
And even if they haven't, they probably would in the future.
Loose ends bothered me.
