Chapter 1 - Prologue

Darkness and light, happiness and sorrow, good and evil, these are forces that oppose each other, and the forces destined to destroy each other. Yet, without each other, can any of these forces be truly appreciated?

Without each other, can they even exist?

The Balance: The true essence of all things. Life, love, emotions... existence? To upset The Balance is to destroy everything we hold dear. To upset The Balance is to destroy the very fabric of existence. This was the philosophy of Zohar, one of the four Rais, the guardians of Aeonra.

Aeonra is a world filled with beautiful and magical creatures, dense green forest and clear sapphire oceans, a magical paradise for all those who live within. However, for thousands of years, the forces of good and the forces of evil have waged war against each other, bringing both forces, and Aeonra herself, to the very brink of extinction.

The Rais, who would rather not interfere with matters of lesser beings, fearing Aeonra's destruction, intervened. The world was divided, and each force was trapped within their respective realms. Only a few very powerful creatures could cross this divide, only a few could cross the divide and live.

Zohar, the wisest of the Rais, knowing the divide would some day be breached, sought beings that would understand the divide; beings that would understand The Balance. The beings he found represented The Balance, for these beings were the result of the unholy union between the servants of good and the servants of evil.

Rai Zohar, in his infinite wisdom, chose these beings to protect the divide. He chose them to protect The Balance.

The Lamechs, as these beings were called, were hated nearly by all, for the duties they were given, but more so for how they were conceived. The all-powerful Rais were no exceptions, for they believed the purity of Aeonra's races had been tarnished. Only Rai Zohar viewed these creatures as beautiful, courageous and cunning beings that should be appreciated and loved. For this the Great Rai Zohar was shunned by the other Rais and the races of Aeonra.
