Chapter 4 - Chapter 3 - Lunch Time Talk

Nova was very tired the next day since she unpacked till late at night and decided to sleep in. When she finally came out of her apartment, she was dressed in casual's, ready to go out and have her brunch.

"Having Lunch?" Her hot neighbor, Demi, was leaning towards her door. She had left her door open in a hurry as she ran in to get her purse. Nova was not yet used to his face.

"Yeah." She said. She was surprised she could keep her cool in front of him even though she felt like it was 'getting kinda hot' in there. "More like brunch. I slept in. Unpacking and all that." Demi nodded in understanding. "I was the same when I moved in a month ago. I know a really good place around here. You wanna join me?"

Demi was a really handsome guy. And he knew that. Not like he was proud and arrogant but he just knew it because everyone around him used to say so. And until today he had never met who could hold a candle to his handsomeness...but yesterday, a girl, dashed into him and Demi was shocked. It was the first time something had mesmerized him through their beauty.

Nova acted unrefined and she was so humble that she didn't acknowledge her own beauty. But in all truth, Nova was breathtakingly beautiful. She had long black hair, which she always tied in a bun, and beautiful emerald green eyes. No one really called her beautiful back at home because they didn't want her to grow arrogant more than she already was.

Demi had to see her once again and when he did see her the next time, the happy expression on his face darkened. When the elevator opened, he could see clearly, a horn on her head and he rushed over to her. She dashed into him and they exchanged few sentences. But what he was paying all his attention to was the horn on her head.

Today morning he decided to confront her about the horn and see what she had to tell about it.

"Okay." Nova slowly gave in. Demi gave her a smile and she smiled back. She was wearing another hoodie today.

"Where's your horn today?" Demi asked. His voice was dark. Nova panicked on the inside but she just smiled on the outside. She realized she forgot to pull her hoodie on the elevator that day and wanted to hit herself in anger.

"Horn? Oh, you mean that Hair clip?' Nova asked. She made sure her voice sounded as it should and didn't sound off.

"Hair clip?" Demi was confused. He was sure he had seen a horn but was it really a horn?

"Yeah! I got it as a gift from the person who raised me." Nova spoke in a sharp tone which showed Demi she didn't want to talk about any topic that could come up from what she just said. Demi knew it would be hard for someone to trust a stranger with personal life experiences. So he kept quiet. But he knew what his goal was now. To become close to Nova and figure out what she was hiding.

"I see." Demi nodded. "So what do you like to eat?" He changed the topic to a much easier one. Nova smiled. She was happy he didn't press any further.

"I like everything that has meat." Her eyes glowed. She loved meat. Demi chuckled looking at her face. "What?" Nova pouted. He laughed even more. "No. Nothing. It's just that I love meat too." Nova's eyes sparkled even more. "Oh?? What's your favorite meat then?"

Demi stared at her and she stared back. "I like Pork." He said finally. Nova raised her hands for high fives. "Me too!" She grinned. Demi's heart skipped a beat. He suddenly hit his chest. 'Don't you dare, heart!' He thought to himself. He gave her high fives back.

Nova was wary of Demi now. She made up her mind, whether he was hot or not, she was going to minimize spending time with him. He was awfully perspective and sharp. She also felt like something was off whenever she spent time with him and that was like her warning sign to stay away from him.

When they reached the restaurant, Demi led her to a table facing the outside. Nova stared at the sky. It was darkening and there were thunder flashes. "The sky's dark even though it's just the afternoon," Nova said as she sat.

"It's coming," Demi mumbled. "It's not far away."

"What did you say?" Nova asked Demi who had mumbled something. He smiled at her and shook his head. The waiter came and they ordered things they had discussed on the way.

"So? Why'd you invite me to lunch?" Nova asked between bites. A lightning strike struck outside and the noise of thunder hit them hard. Nova looked outside and smiled. She liked to thunder and lightning storms. Though she didn't like the fact she couldn't wear her earphones. Demi turned to look outside. "It really is magnificent." He said as another lightning beam hit the ground somewhere far away.

"Nova." He drank a sip of his wine. Nova looked at him and raised her brows in a questioning manner. "Yeah?"

He felt at ease and the mood was comfortable.

"I want to go out with-" Demi stopped in his tracks. He snapped out of the daze he was in. He was angry at himself. What was he going to ask someone, who was a Half-demon suspect, just now?

"Go out with?" Nova's heart thumped. She knew he probably meant something else but she couldn't help but get her hopes up with what he was saying.

"With someone I like." Demi completed his sentence. It was true. He wanted to go out with the person he liked but the question was who was it that he liked? Had he really fallen for Nova? But he hadn't even known her for a day.

"Oh." Nova was dejected. She knew he didn't like her, obviously but she couldn't help but hope. "I see. So why don't you confess?" She was determined to help him. She knew that he was something dangerous and someone who could maybe make her confess not only her secrets but other things too. And the more further he got away from her, the easier it would be for her to let go.

"I...uh...She's a suspect for a crime?" Demi muttered. His face was flushing. Nova burst out in laughter. "So you like that type of girls, huh?" Nova couldn't imagine Demi with someone like that and that's what made her laugh.

"No...She's um....really sweet, and she's kind, and She's cute...I haven't even known her for long but I really hope she hasn't done the crime." Nova stared at Demi. He was scratching his neck and looking away. His whole face was blushing red.

"She's really lucky," Nova mumbled. Nova didn't like seeing Demi talk like that about someone else. Demi gave off this familiar feeling and he was comfortable to be with. It was like...Nova felt like....she really was a sucker for faces and bodies. Demi didn't look at Nova. He didn't want her to know he was speaking with her on his mind and when he was speaking he realized. He really liked Nova. Even though it hadn't been a day, he wanted to tell her everything about him and he wanted to know everything about her. She gave off a Deja-vu like feeling.

Demi blushed even harder when Nova said that the girl he was referring to was lucky. He really hoped Nova wasn't a half-demon. He would maybe confess and maybe go out with her. And then he'd maybe...Demi shook his head vigorously. How could he think about Nova like that?

"Do you...." Demi peeked at Nova. Nova was looking at him. She couldn't help but think he was cute. "Do you have someone you like?"

"Yeah," Nova said right away without a moment's hesitation. Demi felt downcast. He really hoped she didn't like anyone. "So what's he like?" Demi didn't want to know but Nova's eyes were sparkling like there was something she wanted to tell but he had to ask her first.

Nova clutched her chest hardly. "Cute." She said seriously. "He's really really cute." Demi stared at her, wide-eyed, and then burst out laughing. Nova reddened. She realized what she had said and how she had said it. "I...I'm going to the washroom." She quickly got up and left for the washroom. Demi was still laughing. But on the inside, he felt sad. He was a huge and handsome guy. There was no way he could be cute...

Nova washed her face and stared at her reflection. Her horn was coming out and that's why she had run to the washroom. She waited for a while for herself to calm down and when she did, she left and went back to their table. She didn't say anything and continued to eat in silence. Even Demi didn't say anything to her. When they finished, they caught each other's eyes and for that fraction of a second, they remembered what had happened. Nova burst out laughing again and Demi turned away.

"Pfft..." He began to laugh too. What had happened wasn't funny at all but to them, it was something they'd never forget their entire lives. The day they realized they liked someone but their feelings will never get reciprocated. It was the bitter-sweet first love for both of them.

"It's my treat," Demi said as he paid the bill. Nova grinned.

"I guess that means I'll have to treat you next time."

"That's right." Demi grinned back at her.
