Chapter 3 - His Mom's Invitation

Hailey woke up early the next day because Vince had stayed in the penthouse. At that moment, she was cooking breakfast at the stove.

Her class starts at nine o'clock today, so she has plenty of time before she goes to the university. She took the Hotel and Restaurant Management course, and she has enjoyed it so far.

In Vince's case, he always leaves for work at 7:30 in the morning. Since his company is just fifteen minutes away, it sometimes depends on traffic, and it takes him twenty minutes to get there.

Anyway, he has plenty of time since his company's office hours start around 8:30 in the morning. But Vince tends to arrive at his office before everyone else. He also begins working earlier than everyone else.

That's why she has to finish preparing his breakfast before seven in the morning. At exactly seven, Vince came down.

She just thought about it. Hailey hears Vince's bedroom door open and close, followed by faint footsteps descending the stairs.

"Good morning." Vince casually greeted her, wearing a gray suit and black leather shoes.

"Hi, good morning!"

Without turning around to face him, she cheerfully returned the greetings while arranging the lettuce, tomato, and cucumber in a bowl.

She loves a vegetable salad with apple cider and mayonnaise dip, which Vince also liked.

Vince pulled out the dining chair and sat down. He took out his phone and tapped on the keyboard. After completing the transaction, he placed his phone on the table, picked up his fork, and ate within a minute.

Vince told Hailey that he had transferred her allowance for this month, including the food budget.

She was about to say something, but Vince was already eating, so she shut her mouth.

She wants to tell him she barely touched the money he wired last month. And for the food budget, the amount he gave her is enough for half a year since only the two of them are eating when Vince is barely coming to the penthouse.

He only comes over if he has to work overtime. For the rest of the week, she was alone in this spacious penthouse, which she loved.

However, Vince has been coming over often lately.

Anyway, this is his house, and the penthouse they're living in is owned by the Shen Group. So, he usually comes home to his place.

Hailey shook her head and put all her attention on pouring coffee into Vince's mug and hers. She sets down the coffee pot and then gets Vince a glass of water. Once she finishes serving him, she sits across from him to eat her breakfast.

It's a typical scene whenever Vince visits. After finishing his breakfast, he picks up his mug and walks toward the sofa, facing the busy city view.

He will sit there for ten minutes, sipping his coffee and scrolling through his phone for headlines. Once she finishes her meal, she quietly collects the plates and washes them.

"I'm leaving for work," Vince announced as he sat up from the sofa, grabbed his coat, and slid his arms into the sleeves.

"Okay, have a great day!"

Once the door shut, Hailey sighed with relief. At last, she could care less about wandering around the house.

Well, undeniably, their arrangement is unusual. She would rather be a butler than a mistress. When Vince comes to her, she will prepare his meal, wash his clothes, and await his commands and instructions.

And the irony is that they have separate bedrooms and never sleep together. People who knew she was Vince's mistress would have thought they shared this kind of intimacy.

But if they knew the truth, no one would believe it and would instead say it was a lie; they did not make love.

Well, she didn't need their opinion. It was more convenient for her to avoid physical contact with him.

No. There's nothing wrong with him. She is sure that Vince is 100% straight and has a physique that would make any woman drool and dream of winning his heart.

'But my purpose is not to fantasize about his physiques and be smug that his eyes are on me, and I was offered to be his mistress. The reason I accepted the contract is something I only know.'

Days passed, and as the weekend arrived, Vince stayed in the penthouse to finish his work. Hailey guessed that a minor problem had occurred at his company, which was why he had returned early.

Vince stayed in his study all day, and Hailey brought his lunch before leaving to buy a few ingredients.

"I'm going to the supermarket," she told him so he wouldn't wonder if he noticed she wasn't home.

Vince didn't lift his head to look at her, but his voice remained gentle as he said, "Okay."

However, it was a wonderful day to run into Vince's mother. Hailey was entering the mall and had just taken a few steps when she ran into Hilda Shen.

Hilda's assistant approached her, carrying Madam Hilda Shen's message.

"Miss, madame Shen is inviting you for coffee."

Hailey nodded with a smile, already suspecting the sudden invitation.

Facing each other in a private room of a famous café inside the mall, Hilda sipped her teacup with elegance while Hailey kept staring at her milk tea.

After setting down her cup, Hilda raised her eyes and looked at the woman sitting across from her. Examining her son's girlfriend, Hilda admits she's too beautiful.

'But a pretty face is deceiving,' she thought.
