Chapter 25 - Down under serenity

As Mira relentlessly drained the black ooze from Miro's body, her own form began to warm, and a searing sensation flared within her. Though she halted her drinking, her lips remained pressed against Miro's skin. A burning sensation coursed through Mira's form, causing her to grit her teeth against Miro's flesh.

A whimper escaped Miro's lips as he felt her sharp edges. Despite the wave of nausea that washed over her, Mira persisted in her consumption of Miro's dark essence. With each passing moment, Mira's hunger grew, fueled by an unfamiliar yet insatiable craving that gnawed at her very being.

The flavor of Miro's flesh, once revolting, now tantalized her senses, becoming a source of twisted pleasure. As she continued to siphon the life force from Miro, her teeth sharpened, and in a sudden, inexplicable motion, she was hurled backward, crashing into the sturdy trunk of a nearby tree. Regaining her footing, Mira lifted her gaze and let out a soft, bewildered chirp. Upon sighting the colossal raven before her, Mira recoiled, slamming her back against the tree with a frightened cry.

The raven gestured toward Miro, its wing rising in a deliberate motion. Mira let out a confused growl, unsure of the raven's intentions. The raven's voice was low and mysterious as it spoke, 'Had I not intervened, you would have consumed your guardian whole.

Only when Mira became aware of the foreign object lodged in her mouth did she grasp the raven's words. As she tried to form words, a small, severed appendage dropped from her lips, hitting the earth with a wet thud. Mira let out a startled sound, a mix of confusion and horror, as she stared at the limb, her mind reeling. With another bewildered chirp, Mira leaned to one side, revealing the horrific sight of Miro's missing limb, a stark testament to her actions.

In a fit of rage and disgust, Mira pounced, pinning the raven beneath her. 'Why?!' she screamed, her voice filled with anguish and confusion. Why such cruelty towards him? The raven lay still beneath her, its piercing gaze unyielding. Mira slammed her paw against the ground beside the raven's head, the force causing the earth to shudder.

Tell me, or face the consequences,' Mira threatened, only to be interrupted by a swarm of crows, their wings beating fiercely as they lifted her away from the raven. The raven sneered, 'Or what could you possibly do, little abomination? Enlighten me, what would you do if I chose to remain silent? The raven pinned Mira against the tree, their talons digging into her throat.

The ravens descended, their sharp claws swiping at her form. Mira wept and struggled to free herself, only to be hurled toward the ground. The raven watched with an unreadable expression. You were given a chance to prove yourself, and you failed miserably.

You are a force beyond your control, a mutation gone terribly wrong. From its perch, the raven observed Mira's sobbing form, noting the peculiar steam that rose from her body as it began to shrink and contort. As the moments passed, Mira crawled towards Miro, pressing her ear against his back in search of a heartbeat, only to find an unsettling silence.

Fear and dread washed over Mira, freezing her in place. Her head remained pressed against Miro's lifeless form, a stark reality settling over her. The raven alighted beside Mira, its gaze falling upon her first, before shifting to the lifeless form of Miro that lay beside her. It seems I underestimated you,' the raven admitted, its wing rising in a slow, deliberate motion. A bone shard protruded from its feathers, the sound of cracking bone filling the air. As the raven enveloped Mira with its tattered, broken feathers, she let out a heart-wrenching sob, her body shaking with grief. Just as the raven prepared to deliver the final blow, a blur of fur burst forth, tackling the bird and sending it tumbling to the ground.

The raven, its feathers ruffled in annoyance, took to the skies with a powerful beat of its wings. Perched on a branch, the raven watched, oblivious to the fact that Mira was under the protection of not one, but two guardians. I let my vigilance wane, unaware that you were accompanied by two, the raven murmured to itself. Meanwhile, Mira wept, her tears being gently licked away by the approaching, mysterious figure. Mira's confusion deepened until a familiar voice spoke, 'Mira is well, I assure you of that.

A faint chirp followed, and as Mira's gaze fell upon the speaker, she beheld a peculiar, misshapen creature standing upright on its hind legs, its form covered in a multitude of furs. Though the voice was not as she remembered, there was an unmistakable familiarity to it—this was Dra, transformed yet still recognizable.
