Chapter 10 - Mark Smith

"Oh man!" exclaimed Mark as he walked back and forth on the corner of a street in front of a single apartment house. It felt like he wanted to go in but was resisting himself to do so.

"I shouldn't have come here. They will never understand me," he whispered.

"God, please help me," he screamed looking up towards the sky.

"What's the matter, son?" I asked him, "I heard your call and was nearby. So, I thought I should stop by and hear you out," I said in a complete mocking way and standing as if I was a saint or God himself.

"Ah—thank you," Mark said as he downed his head, "G—Kyle?" he said in a vague but rather disappointed face.

"Now, am I that disappointing?" I asked him in a questioning manner.

"Well, right now. Yes!" he answered, "But what are you doing here? He said as he looked around and saw Carol and the gang standing faraway, "And you brought them with you?"

"Oh—you know how our caveman is, she insisted on coming and.." I took a pause and continued, "They came because she insisted them to come," I said with a crackling tone.

"Seriously? Why are you here?" he asked in an upset voice.

"To help you out in talking with your parents, isn't that obvious?"

"How do you know about that?"

"I happen to be a Garrison and we have a lot of influence in this region,"

He looked at me with an unsatisfied face as if I was lying.

"I called your home," I said because indeed I was lying.

"Well good. Saves me the trouble of walking home." he said as He started walking away from his house.

I blocked his way by walking in front of him.

"You should really go and talk with them," I asserted him.

"No I shouldn't," he claimed as his voice roared with his adamant face, "And besides what do you know about how one feels when he is taunted over,"

He walked besides me and said, "I am not as bright as you are. I'll never be. But I tried, in fact I am still trying to be something like you. But I just don't see myself in your shoes. I thought they understand me, but I was wrong. They don't," he said with a sad and disturbed face with eyes filled with tears. He won't let them out but they still flowed as those tiny eyes never had the capacity to hold those tears inside.

It was true that Mark never was a bright student, on the other hand I was a bright child. Some people called me prodigy. That is the reason why I would never know how it feels to be mocked. But I had to help.

"Mark, you and I are both different persons. The goals you want to achieve are different from mine. I am an idiot who likes to study but are overzealous guy who likes to be a playful. I am good at studies but as good as you in sports. You told me you wanted to be in high school team. Then why are you comparing yourself with me?" I asked him.

"They won't support me to do so…" he said.

"You see, a human mind is just like a pendulum oscillating between two phases, that is to faithful and being unfaithful. There's always a phase where someone is unsatisfied even though you do everything in your power because that is one of the superpowers which every human being posses, being unsatisfied. But it doesn't remain forever. Maybe it was that phase when you had your quarrel," I walked up towards him placing my hand on his shoulder, "They understand you. Trust me they do. I spoke with your mom and she regrets it every day. They don't think ill of you after all they are your parents, right?"

I looked up in the sky watching the starts, "You are right, I know nothing of how it feels to be taunted over but I do know how it feels when you don't have a mother to share things with. I thought that you have yours. So, at least you shouldn't go through what I am going right now."

He looked at me with no response.

"It's up to you to decide," I said as I walked away. I walked towards Carol and everyone standing on the either side and watched Mark walking inside the house.

We all watched him walking in. I was personally pleased to do him so.

I was ten when my mother passed away. Till date I don't know how that happened, because every time she came in the picture my father would have tears overflowing from his eyes. So, I thought it would be best to not come up with that topic. I always felt lonely and always felt like I had something missing, but I never got to know what.

I have a lot of my memories with my mom. We would go to the park every Thursday after music class. We would always end up having a picnic at my favorite place, that is beach. Watching the sunset she would always say, 'Kyle, whatever happens never think ill for any person. Help everyone in need and if you don't I would get mad,' she always said it with laughter. Those were one of her last words. So, I try to help everyone possible.

As I was thinking and watching Mark go inside, Amy walked towards me.

She hugged me, "Thank you!" she said with a blistering smile.

I was shocked by her gesture but the longer she held onto me the more comfortable it was. Her hair flustered over with an pleasant aroma. It was something I had never felt.

"Why?" I asked her in curious manner.

"Just accept my thanks, will you?" she said as looked at me.

I smiled in response.

I guess this was it. Something unknown happened to me.

I really like her, or I love her.

This time it was clearer than water to me.

I finally found what I have been searching for this whole time, the missing piece from my life. It is you, Amy Rose.

We all were hanging out beside the road and we were hungry as hell.

"Here you are," said Mark as he walked behind us.

"Hey, so how did everything go?" Jason asked him.

"Good, I have never felt so great." he exclaimed.

I was happy that they were able to clear the air between them.

"Okay, I am hungry. Someone feed me something," I exerted myself as my stomach growled.

"Good, my mother's making something. You all should come in,"

"Great!"

"I'll help your mom with something," said Carol.

"Okay, then I'll die hungry," I quickly replied.

"I am not that bad at cooking," she argued.

"Seriously Carol, we were in the same school and you were responsible for the fire in the kitchen back then." Jason backed me up.

They both kept on quarrelling while Mark came and spoke in a low tone, "Thank you,"

I just smiled and started following him as he guided us the way to his house.

"So, helping everyone as usual, huh?" Staci asked me.

"As usual?" I questioned her.

"Nothing," she said as she walked fast ahead me. That was something I was not used to, but everything was unusual for me today.
