Chapter 16 - Chapter 16 - Princess Piña and the Empire

Third-person POV

In the disputed waters in the Mediterranean, the Turkish and Greek ships are trading insults at each other when a Greek cargo ship bound for Istanbul passes by. The ships from the two countries made way for it to pass by safely. While waiting for it to leave the area, the Turkish captain contacted the Greek ship. "Hey, uh, before we glare at each other, wanna watch those "hospitality" videos of the foreign agents from the three superpowers MİT had posted on YouTube?"

"Sure, go on, 10 minutes before we insult each other again," responded the Greek captain.

For those ten minutes, they set aside their differences and sat down to watch these clips on YouTube.

Meanwhile, across the gate in Ginza, Japan, back in the Special Region, in the Alnus Base, Kuribayashi and Mari were astonished to learn that James Mabini is a descendant of Apolinario Mabini, which was the first Prime Minister in the early independent years of the Philippines, and Odesa Quezon is a descendant of Manuel Quezon, the second president of the Philippines. "You gotta be kidding me…" Kuribayashi commented while Kurata was already on his phone researching the family trees of the two famous Filipino figures. "…first off, NBI Director Ferdinand Rizal descended from the Filipino national hero through his brother Paciano, and now, descendants of two more famous figures?"

"Yup!" Odesa chirped while packing up the humanitarian tent for the day. "My great-grandfather is Manuel L. Quezon. Did you know? He was known for his open-door policy for the Jews who wanted to escape Nazi-infested Europe. Back then, many Jew settled in the Philippines for a while before moving to the US and the other Western nations."

This was a fact that Kuribayashi never knew, and it required a descendant of Manuel Quezon to acquire it.

"Yes, that's true," said James, "and my ancestor is Apolinario Mabini, which we considered the 'brains' of the Philippine Revolution in Filipino kasaysayan, or reikishi for your Japanese word for history."

He and Odesa, like the MPC agents who were assigned for this operation, had been drilling their Japanese language acquisitions in their free time for better communication with the JSDF and Japan.

"I think we're lucky to have people who were descendants of famous figures…" Itami's mind said.

As Kuribayashi, Mari, Itami, and Kurata contemplated these facts about the Filipino agents, in the capital of Falmart, the ruler, Princess Piña Co Lada, was recovering from being pinned in the Hakaze Inn Incident back in Japan. When she heard of the humanitarian aid by the MPC agents from the hamlet near the Alnus Base, she was curious about the cuisines of the MPC agents. So, she wrote a letter to the Alnus Base addressing the MPC agents. She requested food from their cultures back in their world.

After waxing a seal on the parchment, she sent it to the base via one of her royal messengers as the sun set beautifully.

She did not pressure the would-be receivers.

Back in the Alnus Base, the JSDF and the MPC agents were eating the roasted wild boar Rory had slaughtered a few hours ago. James and a few NBI agents adapted their Filipino lechon stuffings and techniques into a large portion of the dead boar. Itami and a few of his comrades were mesmerized when they cracked the skin of their potions like glass and the spice of the meat hits their tongues hard.

"Wow..." Itami chewed on the meat.

"The spices of the lechon is so much in flavor!" one of his comrades exclaimed.

"In the Philippines," one of the NBI agents laughed, "almost every handaan wouldn't be complete with a lechon on banana leaves."

Meanwhile, Kurata and Mari were amazed at Ioanna's long Greek. "Um, can you say your last name again?" Mari asked.

"It's Christodoulopoulos," Ioanna chirped. "Try counting how many syllables it has."

Kurata counted with his fingers. "Six of them. Weird."

"That's Greek for you!" Cesare responded while eating his small Maritozzo bun. "Some last names can be longer than your Japanese names that have 3 or 4 syllables."

"Also, our Greek president Paraskevas Agathangelou had 4 syllables on his first name and 5 on his last name," Theofylaktos added. "9 in total."

 "Wow, wild," Akira replied.

The night was fun.
