The preparations quietly resumed. Each of them was assigned to do their roles.
Livius closed his medical case before looking toward Azmael. "Show me the recovery room."
Azmael nodded once. "The nearest guest room has already been cleared."
The two physicians headed upstairs together, leaving the others in the basement.
The room had already been converted into a temporary infirmary.
Fresh sheets covered two beds placed several feet apart. A third had been prepared near the window. A table held neatly arranged medical supplies, bottles of potions, sterilized instruments, clean towels, and basins of water.
Livius walked from one corner to another without wasting a step.
He inspected the IV stands. Checked the fluids. Counted the blood transfusion sets. Opened drawers to make sure nothing essential was missing before closing them again.
Azmael leaned casually against one of the bedposts, watching him work. "You really check everything."
