Inside the chamber, Melisca continued growling, her breathing rough once more.
Astrid quietly lowered her hand. She never took her eyes off the rogue. She drew in a quiet breath before taking another step forward. She slowly wrapped both hands around one of the cold runebars.
"Melisca..." Her voice was gentle. Soft enough to barely disturb the silence.
Melisca paused before pacing once again. Back and forth, as though weighing something only she could understand. Her heavy tail swayed behind her. Her ears twitched.
Then... She finally turned. Slowly, she walked back toward Astrid.
Ezekiel instinctively stayed close beside Astrid, his body slightly angled toward her, ready to pull her away at the slightest sign of danger.
Melisca stopped before the bars. Her pale eyes lowered. Not to Astrid's face but to her hands. She slowly lifted one massive paw.
