CHAPTER 235
The steady rush of water finally stopped. Ezekiel twisted the faucet closed.
Silence returned to the underground chamber.
He set the hose back onto its hook along the stone wall before looking around the cell one last time.
The floor had been washed clean. The blood had long since disappeared beneath the flowing water. It wasn't much. But at least she wouldn't have to stay in filth.
He rested one hand against the cold iron bars. His eyes drifted toward the white wolf.
Melisca had settled once again near the back of the cell. She hadn't taken her eyes off him. Her pale yellow gaze remained empty. Void of anything. As though nothing existed behind those eyes anymore.
Ezekiel's fingers tightened around the bars. There has to be something. He lowered his head. His thoughts began racing. Anything!Anyone or any way.
Silence echoed in the room.
